Ricoh - Out of date carts

Stupidly, I got a second set of inks for my Ricoh printer when I bought it. It transpires that I didn't need these any nearly as quickly as I'd thought (a plus for the Ricoh!) and I never even thought to check the dates on them.

I've now found that they're all just out of date.

I'm informed that these shouldn't be used as they will possibly cause issues with the printer and will invalidate the warranty.

Has anyone used out of date carts in the Ricohs? I was intending binning them (ouch) but then thought about punting £100 on a 3110 and installing them to see how it went

Are they far out of date Justin? If not, I'd definitely give them a go. It's like jars of stuff in supermarkets that have expiry dates 3 years ahead, and then suddenly they can't be used any more! :rolleyes:

Our old 3110 which was faulty and not suitable for sublimation any more had a little ink left in it, which I used for testing ideas and stuff, and I think it was 2-3 months out of date. Didn't do any harm to the printer that I can see, although I didn't sublimate any of the print outs so can't be sure if the ink would have sublimated properly.

1 is end of Nov 2013, others are end of Jan 2014 so not that old really I can get a 3110 for a decent price so reckon it may be worth a punt

I reckon that expiry dates are a sales tactic to a certain extent. It's like easter eggs or selection boxes that conveniently go out of date a month before the occasion comes back around!

If they don't sublimate properly I'd imagine you could just flush them out of the new 3110 and hang onto it for future use, or as a spare! If the printer explodes, don't blame me though

I tend to agree with Sponge here and I personally would take a punt if its a 3110. A new 3110 is only £100.00 if it does go wrong.

However....! I was watching some out of date (JAN 14) carts on ebay (3 x Black Sublijet R's for a Ricoh GX7000), I was looking to bid but decided against it after speaking to Kris at Listawood who does not recommend out of date ones. They only went for £31.00 but if Kris is correct I could have waved goodbye to £700.00 on a new machine.

So although I say take the punt, I have just done the exact opposite

I have been using out of date carts for sometime now without issue, I reckon by doing this I have easily saved more than the price of a new printer.

I'm told Sawgrass don't supply carts with more than 12 months on and often only 7/8 months. Therefore, it stands to reason that there are many printers with 'out of date' inks partially used in them!

Mine is a 7100 but as they're standard size carts they'll fit the 3110 so I reckon we'll give it a shot

I was using a set of carts.. had colour issues - mentioned it to Sawgrass.. told that my carts might be out of date.. checked, they were by over 6 months.. replaced them *sad bank balance moment* and then found it wasn't even the carts !! hence I now have a brand new set in my machine and the perfectly fine *out of date set* sitting in bags on my desk

I would say, go for it.. because at the end of the day, as you have stated.. MOST are already using carts that are out of date..
