Bad packaging
Re: Bad packaging
I've been eagerly awaiting 20 Durham mugs from an ebay seller as I'm running short. They were a good deal and was also told that they would put in some extra in case of breakages. They arrived this morning and when I picked up the parcel I knew that some were broken, but hey, they were putting in extra ones so it'll be fine....so I thought. I couldn't believe it when I opened the parcel so see that there was no packing around each mug apart from the fact that they were in poly bags, and 1 loose piece of bubble wrap on 2 sides of the box and on top of the mugs. There were 25 in the box and 9 of them were smashed to bits. In fact I put more bubble wrap on 1 mug than they put in the whole box.
I've messaged the seller to see what they are going to do about it, so am waiting for a reply.

Re: Bad packaging
Some of the main suppliers only supply boxes of 36 mugs in poly bags, the cardboard inbetween is usually enough however you still get the odd breakage.
I received a Leffe beer glass in a shoe box, smashed to bits of course. When I told the ebay seller that I could bend this box with my wee finger she still insisted she had packed it properly. Some people are seriously thick, unfortunately smart people have to mix with these types. If I ruled the world eh?

My mug packaging follows that of a guy on Youtube who sells collectors Starbucks mugs at $1000 dollars, since following his packaging which takes about 2 minutes, there have been no breakages. Have used smash proof boxes which were quite good but not infallible. Polystyrene are no good as I sell 11oz mugs. Commercial orders go out in the boxes they arrive in but I only sell those in multiples of 36.
Experience has taught me that anything going to Scotland or Liverpool has to be really well packaged. Even a customer in Liverpool asked in their email for it to be really well packed as they often received stuff well packed but still broken!
I had some boxes made, dropped from a height of five foot six times onto my concrete studio floor, no breakage. Yes you guessed it the Royal mail managed to break some!
So the Youtube process is quick, simple works, and I recycle packaging materials that come in. The bit I buy is a standard 6 inch box, cheap as a cheap thing.

Re: Bad packaging
I've been extremely lucky so far when receiving mugs from suppliers. This is the first time there has been any breakages.
I got a reply from this particular seller who seemed genuinely shocked that any were broken as she wrote on it 'handle with care, do not throw or drop'!!

Re: Bad packaging
When i sold mugs,
i put the bubble wrap around that came with them from BMS, then taped a cardboard (from the layers and box) strip around the mug and handle, and put in boxes bought from longforte.
