Xpres Mug Press pre heat.
Re: Xpres Mug Press pre heat.
Well I have just acquired an xpres horizontal single mug press (used).
All appears good and very straight forward, one aspect does have me confused. My BMS presses don't start the countdown until the mugs are up to temperature. The xpres one starts the countdown as soon as I close the press regardless of mug temperature...is this right or am I doing something wrong?

That's right, set your tempertaure, hold down the save button (assuming it's the same as mine).
The current temp will be displayed which should be about 180 degrees C.
Close handle, temp will drop because mug is colder.
Temp rising light will flash, 180 seconds later you should have a good looking mug.

Thanks Chap
OK so it is right
My BMS presses, show the temperature dropping, then climbing, and when the mug is up to the preset temperature THEN the timer counts down.
Interesting that the BMS press although much cheaper is perhaps more advanced in that it monitors the mug temperature. Only bought the xpres press out of curiosity as it was a sensible price, nice bit of kit though.

Re: Xpres Mug Press pre heat.
We've always pressed mugs with the timer starting when closing the press, and adjust the temperature of the press to compensate for the temp drop of the mug going in, which depends on the ambient temp of the room, and the mugs themselves (from where they've been stored) As a result of this, our presses are at 190-200 degrees rather than 180, and have increased time from 180 secs to 200.
Now that we're preheating the mugs on an electric grill, this is less of an issue.

Re: Xpres Mug Press pre heat.
My old novachrome press worked much the same with the dropping temperature, although you had to start the timer manually which was fun when you forgot to start it!
Whether the timer starts as soon as the handle is dropped or when it is up to temperature, the mug is still receiving heat and sublimating. All you need to worry about is the length of time in total the mug is in the press...BMS or XPres....and that involves a small amount of experimenting regardless of the press.
Keeping your mugs at least room temperature will not cause any significant trouble, others heat the base or give an extra 20 seconds or so to compensate.
The only thing about the Xpres , is that it doesn't tell you what the current temperature is when actually pressing...only that it is rising...I find that annoying.

Hi Danny
I use the older version of this
http://www.printerowners.co.uk/hardware ... -press.htm
I have 2 of them and an xpress one. The xpress one is heavier build but the two BMS ones have been in use for nearly 2 years 6 days a week no problems so I guess you could say I have had my monies worth!

Re: Xpres Mug Press pre heat.
hiya everyone. i know this is an old post but i would like to double check on a printing setting for a adkins studio press. unlike my bms press. i put my cold mug in and press. then wait for the temp to rise back up to about 180C then start the timer. with the adkins unit, as soon as i close the press the timer starts automatically. what is the best time and temp for a cold mug (room temp) please?
Re: Xpres Mug Press pre heat.
Start with 180 @ 180 - see how long the press takes to get back to 180, and adjust accordingly... a bit of trial and error will get you there
(our presses are mostly at 200 @ 200, and we pre-heat the bases)
