Re: How long to dry?

Post by JMugs »

I have never left my prints to dry before pressing...BUT I have a problem.
I am printing onto the 600 by 400 unisub MDF photo panels and have just had a light cloudy effect in what should be a dark grey area.
I am drawn towards the print not being dry as the cloudy area is the last bit printed, the print took about 25 minutes (yes slow but detailed) the last bit would have been a matter of minutes from printer to in press.
I pre-pressed the panel for 30 seconds to drive off moisture.
Press time 125 seconds at 204 degrees

I normally print to aluminium not the large MDF panels, so all views welcome. Anybody else any ideas?

I have dropped a message over to xpres so fingers crossed somewhere there is an answer.

I'd pre press for longer than that, Janners. More like a minute/minute and a half on those big boys.

Pre pressed for a minute and it bowed too much. Interestingly the guys at xpres said "Don't pre-press", so that's next.
Onwards.

It is chewing a few pennies, but I just can't resist pushing into new areas. This April see's my allocated time for product / market exploration up. So I need to crack them.

Aren't Xpres now recommending using a material on top of the panels?

Probably more to help stop chipping though.
