Re: A3 Pigment Ink Printer

Post by RoyLittle0 »

Hi all,
I am looking for a low cost Pigment ink printer for small amounts of vinyl printing, for Doming keyrings etc, a maximum A3 size, are there any small format printers available that use Pigment inks

I have looked at the Epson Stylus R1800 but cant seem to find any information on if they are pigment or Dye inks.

Any pointers gratefully received

Official Epson R1800 inks are pigment.

List of pigment based printers here, I think the Epson C series are probably the cheapest option if you can still find any about.

Having said that, the WorkForce WF-2010W uses Durabrite inks which are pigment.

This is based solely on my personal experience and others might have different experience.

You might have noticed that BROTHER printers are not on that list. A lot of people on this forum like Brother printers and I use Epson pigment inks in my Brother A3 printers. It is NOT a good idea! The Brother printers I have do NOT play nicely with pigment inks.

Having said that, I have a reason to use Brother and a need for pigment. It is a case of doing a nozzle check before every use and expecting the odd clogged nozzle fairly often 'during' a print run.

If you are using one of the MFC DW series (like MFC-6510DW), never turn the thing off between uses. Leave it on 24/7. It will periodically do a head clean. For some reason, when my printers do this it is some time around 1am. This will help a little with keeping the nozzles serviceable.

But in my experience over the years, Pigment inks and Brother printers are not a happy partnership.

Brother printers do however run very nicely on Epson Dye Sub Inks - but again, leave them turned ON 24/7.
