With your cartridges will be a little bag with 4 funny clear round things each like a pair of tiny funnels joined together. These are air filters. I've added a pic that shows where they go because I completely forgot about them when I first started printing.

I have sometimes had to leave the brother for weeks at a time without printing. when I come back there is sometimes a little bit missing in the nozzle check, usually in the magenta, but a clean fixes it. Oddly, the only time I have any nozzle problems is when I am printing a lot of images one after another, but again a quick nozzle check and clean fixes it for a long time.

I find that printing 'photo' or 'best' quality makes images far darker than I like and that plain normal seems nicest. Photo and best seem to put out far too much ink and the paper is almost wet. But I cannot use an icc profile, so you might find better results.

Those big cartridges get me hundreds of A4 size prints between fills.

Hi I'm new to this, I have the same printer and the large tanks,, what sort of results do you get from yours? Very happy now I can see the Printer is used for Subli

Hi Again Bren!

You can use the Brother inkjet printers, like the one you have, for sublimation printing. But, it does need to be dedicated to the job, so your current printer would need the inks changing over for it to become a sublimation printer, and then you wouldn't be able to use it for normal paper printing anymore - if you're OK with this then great, otherwise, you'll need to buy another one (along with the refill carts)

As the Brother's aren't commonly used for sublimation, you'll need a custom ICC profile to match up your printer and inks, so that your colour print properly - this is especially important if wanting to reproduce designs for an artist! This will cost around £25, unless of course, you already have your own profiling kit.

And then you'll obviously need dye sublimation ink (sometimes just referred to as sublimation ink) - do not confuse this with dye ink.

Ayup Pisquee, I was going to contact you about the colour profiling, been on this forum for hours now lol,, I have 3 printers lol, one for my University work, another for the kids to abuse and The A3 Brother one. It's has been used for general printing, but it is a shame to waste the A3 printing option and my friend is not great with Tech stuff lol, I have a heat press as I made inkjet transfer t-shirts for the family, hobby I guess, Sublimation is better thou and has more range.

just to chip in here....

for those who know us on here.....
we use brother printers right from the start of our business....with extra large 80ml refillable carts

after some major faults with the 5910dw's, at the beginning ( all covered under pc world 3 yr what ever happens guarantee )
we switched to the 6510dw's.....

so now have 2 x 6510dws + 2 x 5910dw - 3 used for printing, one as spare back up just in case.....

well, that "just in case" has happened.....AGAIN !!

this time to one of our new ( 1yr old now ) 6510dw's.....when cleaning, the racket it makes and....more importantly, when printing our images for cases,
there is a green tinge to the top of the a4 paper, which in turn is starting to creep down the page and is now affecting the images placed at the top.

so me thinks the heads are on the way out....phoned pc world today, they DONT sell the 6510 anymore ?? EH !!!!

so when we go up tomorrow for replacement under warranty, its going to be the 5910dw ( which we had all the sodding probs at the beginning with )
or the brother mfcj870dw ( A4 )....AINT PAYING EXTRA money (upgrade ) for the £279 one when it dont do any else the others dont, except for a nice fancy touch screen !
already using the spare ( 5910dw ) just now, as that was our spare back up one.

the joys of sub printing

TBH....we have thought of chucking the whole brother thing and buying 4 epsons, but Not that many have the same DPI as the brothers, and we are used to using these now.....in our sleep just about

if it was not for pc worlds 3yr what ever happens warranty, these printers would have had the heave ho last yr

Out of interest what DPI do the Brothers have?
Maybe the sublimation inks are too harsh on the Brother heads - are they built for dye or pigment inks?

hi bud ;-)
1200 x 6000 dpi for the 6510dw
also has Piezo with 210 x 3 nozzles so pigment inks are no problem....as we have ones on pigment inks and dye inks, and have run without fault..

just the sub ink ones ;-(

but tbh, there aint many home/small office printers that can handle thicker sub inks....pays yer money and takes yer chance bud !

 ITS OFFICIAL

DO NOT buy a brother printer for sub work....
ok for the odd print, but for long sustained, busy sublimation use, the heads just cant handle it at all

i still have not had the chance to get up to pc world to take back our 6510, so i thought i would take out the BRAND NEW 5910 and fire it on till i get time to go up ...hopefully this weekend.

these are the biggest piles of **** that anyone every sold....
done 10 prints with the NEW 5910....then nothing, no inks coming out at all...totally blank...clean, clean...pure white  buggered....

so we running on the old 6510...just.....will be taking BOTH these back to pc world this weekend, even if i need to shut both stores to do it....AND I AINT GETTING ANY BROTHER REPLACEMENT .

money back or store credit......

now off to look at richoh printers or what ever they are called....will need to buy one tonight so it can be here for friday - SICK, SICK SICK of these printers...did i say SICK TO DEATH OF THESE
