Re: Ricoh not printing when left on.

Post by Quinsfan »

Hi all
All the instructions and forums say to leave these printers on and they will look after themselves. Every time I go to print an item after a time of non work over night or even over a couple hours sometimes, the printer does nothing yet it say it is online and the print jobs show in the queue as printing but nothing happens. Blank screen on the printer but blue light is on. I have to turn it off for 5 mins then back on again. In the meantime the print queue still says it is printing and wont let me delete them. So I have ctrl alt delete and end the printer task. Any ideas please?
Many thanks
Iain

Mine takes a few mins *and yes, a few minutes* to get itself sorted for a print job through USB connection after it's not printed for a while and mine is on 24/7.. I know it sounds daft but might be worth leaving it for a few minutes to check that it's not just a little slow sending the work to the printer.. and the printer getting itself sorted :)

make sure it is assigned to a fast usb port, also uninstall the drivers and re install all the printer software.these printers do look after themselves if left on.When attached to my xp laptop it takes longer to print than when connected to my win 7 machine

I had a similar problem, printing from photoshop. I have a psd file with each mug design as layers. I would choose the layers I wanted to print (3 per a4), and print. This was fine, until one time, when I had the same issue of files queueing to print and nothing happening.
I thought, either I have too many layers in the file (making it work slow), or there was some kind of corruption to the file somewhere. I tried a few options eg. making the psd file smaller by removing layers and copying selected layers to a new file, however, no joy. What I do now, is save the required layers as a jpeg and close photoshop, then open the jpeg in a new psd file, and print, no problems.
Hope this makes sense, you may find some help in my rambles :)

If you leave it on all the while (to save it doing too many maintenance cycles) I have found you have to wake it up before you send it the print request. WITHOUT pressing the on/off button, press the arrow button underneath (printer not in sight at mo so I can't be more precise) which is enough to wake it up. I haven't a clue why it works! It is connectedvia usb directly to the computer but seemed not to like being sent a job whilst asleep

To clarify now I have looked - it is the "down arrow" just to the left of the on off button

Thanks Ali P - I will try that next time.

Until now (and my printers are connected via Ethernet cables from a router/switch) I have been pressing the 'Power' button for just enough time to turn the printer on before it would print if it had not been sent a job for a few hours. If you sent it a job within a certain amount of time (not sure how long) the printer will wake it's self and print.

Either way, if it's been left for a while it looks like you have to Wake the printer yourself regardless of the way you do that.

.. I just tried the 'Down' button and it does not wake the printer I have in front of me, so maybe try the Power button momentarily as I do. Just DONT turn it off - we had a power cut last week and obviously both my Ricoh were off, they take a while to start up again - and, above all waste ink.
