Could it be a log splitter for splitting logs !! for burning in a woodburner to keep workshop warm.
Whatever it is is keeping us all guessing.

Re: Can you gues what it is yet ?
I made a outside Chiminea last year for a BBQ, it really does work well.
There was a time around here when even the local dumps would not take empty cylinders so I decided to recycle them - I had originally intended to make indoor wood burners but there was too much Red Tape.
Ignore the paint on it - I used it to set up my gun when I restored the small Honda.

We could do with a hydraulic press if you fancied making one for us!
Re: Can you gues what it is yet ?
Slight design change needed, I just did a test run only to find that these Bottle Jacks don't work upside down..DOH
And I have filled it with as much oil as I can (you need room for the ram to go all the way down).. shist.
Pisquee, it's unusual for me to be doing something for myself out there - I have a builder next door who drops off broken machines every other day.. it's a nice little earner though

Got around that by using them the right way up - but using the base as the ram (with an adapter plate)..Slight design change needed, I just did a test run only to find that these Bottle Jacks don't work upside down..DOH

I made a Submarine for a cat once - will post an image when I find it.
Here's a little progress, had to re-do it the other way up so it looks a bit messy but nothing I can't fix.
There will be 4 guide rods to align the press plate - one of them is on the right to give you an idea:
