Epson 1400 poor colours

it'd be worth double checking when you go to the print menu, that the correct profile is still checked, as my Photoshop sometimes decides to default itself back to letting the printer manage the colours.

Yeah, make sure that you are set in the print dialog of photoshop for "Photoshop manages colours" and select the Artainium ICC profile here. In the Epson driver settings, you need to ensure that colour management is turned off.
