Re: purple printing/transferring as blue!

Post by spongerobinson »

hi folks,

first off, sorry for another 'colour printing as another colour' thread! i've run into an issue today where I'm trying to print something thats purple, but it prints and transfers to both mugs and coasters, as more of a blue.

I've had a look for other threads on the same topic, but most of them seem to be the other way around, i.e. blues printing/transferring as purple.

I'm using an Epson 4015 and definitely have the correct profile etc, as have just checked all settings to be sure!

This is a sample of the purple I'm trying to print (#652f8e):

And while this photo is not entirely accurate, this is more or less the colour that its printing as (maybe slightly more towards purple, but nowhere near the colour i'm trying to print:

It's puzzling me, and I'm wondering is it something I'm doing wrong or has anyone ever come across similar? I know screen colours don't always translate perfectly, but this is a huge difference.

as always, any help would be much appreciated!

Kevin

and my solution to the problem for now is this! still can't figure out why the first purple is printing out so different, but can use this as a reference for purples in future! always seems to be blues and purples that cause problems.

this is probably something I should've done a long time ago really. If this might be handy for others, let me know and I'll see if I can upload it here somewhere?

ATB,

Kevin

Thanks paul. I found that one of yours earlier and transferred that to a mug too! just thought it would be handy for myself to have references to exact colours on a mug for future use too :)

I had heard of this DSF Mug Template but kept forgetting to find out what it was all about - fantastic, I will be making one as soon as I have a press back :)
My website is open: www.Linksrepairshop.co.uk

Using FlexiStarter 10 and a Liyu SC631e & a Silhouette Cameo cutter. 2x Ricoh SG3110dn printers and Adkins Auto Clam press. Using Sublijet-r from Sawgrass.
..And I have gotten my money's worth out of this forum - saved Hundreds by being a Premium Member

For the best results at colour matching, you need a custom ICC profile - one made for your printer and inks, and also one for your monitor.
Then in Photoshop (with Photoshop in charge of colour management and not using PowerDrive), then with it in "Proof Mode" and "Gamut warning on" you will get a pretty close representation on screen of what's going to print onto your products.

I put off posting about this as some may think I am actually Paul, I'm not - I am slightly slimmer and have even less hair !

Anyway, I bought a Profile from Paul and it did make a huge difference to my colours, and I do mean a huge difference.
I ended up going down the supported route though, which is infinitely more expensive than buying an ICC from the young man.

Without an ICC profile for your inks, you are effectively printing colour blind
