This heat tape stuff. I've had some for a year but never found any use for it. I often look at it and wonder why it is there. I've been using cheap sticky tape for everything and had no problems with it. It is cheap, easy to use, doesn't melt and comes in all sorts of sizes.

9/10 the cheap sticky tape will leave some sort of residue on the product being sublimated....quality heat tape should never leave any residue - but it up to one self tbh what one uses...if it works for you, great

5mm cheap from ebay for me, but then I only really use it for mugs so no residue and a tape dispenser means "we" get along fine.

And for the record, no one could ever say I have "piano" hands

i also bought a load of the 5mm ones when i started sublimating just over a year ago. still got them and they are all ive ever used, cant compare them to the larger ones but next time i purchase i will buy one or two at a time not 5-10

Thanks, that more or less addresses my curiosity. So I gather that if I was to use heat tape I wouldn't have to sometimes wipe off a little bit of adhesive from a mug. I imagine in a hight volume work place that would be just one more operation slowing the process. I'll keep my heat tape for when I have to do a big run of mugs.

Yes, the heat tape leaves no residue - the proper stuff anyways. we did a long time ago have some red heat tape that seemed to actually sublimate its redness into the products and press, but the translucent yellow/gold we now have works perfectly for us. (My wife used to just use masking tape! and it left awful residue!)
