Re: Noob 'Bites the Bullet' Ricoh Style.
Forgot to say, don't bother trying to source the printer and inks yourself, keep it simple and any problems, warranty claims etc. are so much easier. I had my 7100 replaced under warranty by Listawood/Sawgrass and it was totally pain free.

I dont really think that it any fault of Justins.... BMS and other sponsors of this site make the gesture alone to allow discounts. What a shame we don't have a members discount for BMSCome on Justin, old chap - pull your finger out

Was only pulling Justin's chain, purchase made from BMS. It wasn't actually a bad price at £311 (exc delivery).

It's definitely not fair to blame the Epson for problems with using a CISS, or then to compare it to a closed cart system. The little Epson is not a large format and not designed to pull/suck ink through long lines from 100ml reservoirs. You'd have a lot less problems with the Epson if you'd avoided a CISS and just used refillable carts.NikGrey;78222 wrote: The problems I am having with this Epson, the usual one with CISS - not recognising the carts.. or usually One of them. This is the second CISS I have tried in this machine and still the same problem so out it goes. (

You then have the economies of scale from bulk rolled paper, and if you go all the way to wide format, then the ink options get ridiculously cheaper too.
Not that I'm saying a newbie should go out and buy a metre wide brand new Epson F series, but, it may be best to stick with the lowest initial investement Sawgrass route for someone who needs to learn on the job, have their hand held, and printer warrantied for when things go wrong which will give opportunity to print most sublimation products (A4) and when it comes time to upgrade, then to sink more money into something bigger.
Where indeed do you draw the line! Looking ahead, its not a big step from A4 printing and mugs to larger items and a flat bed. In the meantime if you only need to print A4 paper then at least with the 7100 you reap the benefits of it being much more efficient than the A4 machine
But as I said the A3 is more expensive and the question is will you gain enough benefit from that efficiency in the long term to warrant the extra expense in the short term.

Re: Noob 'Bites the Bullet' Ricoh Style.
All depends on what you are going to be doing. I have an A3 7000 printer and a quick look back through my purchase orders tells me that I ordered a box of A3 over a year ago and I still have some left whereas I order 10 boxes at a time of the A4 stuff and go through quite a bit of that. But that is because of my products. If I was to order a new printer again I think I would go for an A4, the difference in page price is not that big yet it is a small footprint and a far cheaper machine. I only have the A3 because it was one of the few things I managed to grab from my ex business partner scum... the embroidery machine would not fit in my carBut as I said the A3 is more expensive and the question is will you gain enough benefit from that efficiency in the long term to warrant the extra expense in the short term.

Re: Noob 'Bites the Bullet' Ricoh Style.
Up until a few days ago I've always used Epsons (Dye sub use for the past umpteen years)..ALWAYS with their fair share of problems..My line of work doesn't involve sublimation very often, so my epsons would more often than not be standing idle for weeks on end, and yup, you guessed it, when I had a dye sub order come in, there were always blocked heads. Well I had a sizeable order come in middle of last week and after struggling for 3 days to get the epson working I thought it wasn't worth the hassle any more, so bought the A4 Ricoh from BMS..I know I've only had it a few days but it completed the order without any problems whatsoever (piece of cake to set up too). Fingers crossed it will stay that way
Re: Noob 'Bites the Bullet' Ricoh Style.
Really?... I think this needs clarifying. The SG7100 and the SG3110 use the same size standard cartridges although the SG7100 also has high capacity cartridges. Using high capacity cartridges the cost per ml of ink is cheaper BUT that is not the same as saying it will give "significantly more prints per ml of ink than the A4".arthur.daley;78218 wrote:Having spoken to various people including the very helpful Barbara at Sawgrass it seems that the A3 is a much more efficient printer and will give significantly more prints per ml of ink than the A4
Where is the evidence to suggest that an A3 Ricoh will print significantly more prints per ml of ink compared to the A4 Ricoh printer?
Re: Noob 'Bites the Bullet' Ricoh Style.
I think that is slightly unfair and disingenuous. With over 4000 posts, including significant help to others and being involved from the inception of the forum, then I think BMS does indeed 'support the forum'Justin;78224 wrote:Sorry, BMS don't support the forum but many other suppliers do![]()

That's one way of interpreting what I said. OK, BMS don't contribute financially to the forum or offer any discounts for Premium Members but do post here and offer advice. Is that clearer? The question was do BMS offer any discounts to which I'm answering no, they do not contribute to the discount scheme.
