Re: New from Norwich.

Post by NikGrey »

Hi Folks,

I have been involved in many a business in my life of almost 43 years but I have turned a new leaf and decided to join the 'Personalised Product Printing' Clan :)

I used to sell the 'Day you were Born' software and associated items and as a result I do know at least One member on this fine forum (Dave). Dave has been helping me in my formative days and has been wonderful but now I feel I will need even more help as I have discovered that a massive learning curve is upon my shoulders.

I have a Liyu sc631e Plotter (Not relevant here I know) as I want to offer vehicle Graphics, I think I have that figured out though.. phew..
(Not had a problem with it as I am using XP, Flexi 10 and Inkscape) I wish I could use my iMac for everything but Heyho.

I have already PM'd Paul about a possible Colour Profile as I'm sure the gear I have will not bring me much luck in terms of quality out of the box - I will admit to buying Dye from '*uality*its' (Amazon) for my first attempts as I don't want to waste too much money in the setup process (Shoot me now).

** I have edited my post so as to not advertise anybody and tread on Toes..

I will also admit to buying my first gear from eBay - I have been able to get started (In terms of equipment and consumables) for less that £1k (Shoot me again).. But I am not afraid to admit all of this as I am sure most people will follow my path at first - I did test my Heat Press for cold spots but the heated area was consistent (within 5c at the edges - again, I wont advertise anyone).

I also did my first pressing of my logo on a cotton (Beige) bed sheet with the bundled paper.. hmm, it was 350c for 50 secs and my facebook Blue almost matched the black Stroke around the lettering but this is the reason I am here - for help and advice :)

I am a Hospital Radio presenter, an Amateur Radio operator - a Keen Geocacher, Motorcycle restoration artist, Welder, Engineer, Plater, Electrician - Webmaster.. and spent Ten years enjoying life as a DJ in Sidari (Corfu). And all I want at this point in my life is to be able to produce nice looking Mugs :)

I thank you in advance for any help.

NikGrey.

Welcome to the forum Nik
** I have edited my post so as to not advertise anybody and tread on Toes..
You will not tread on anyone's toes as long as you are not advertising your own machines/services etc. Feel free to name (and shame) but always do it with good constructive reasons and not just a rant because something is going wrong. Everyone on here loves a bargain but you will probably find consistency a problem with supposedly "inferior" inks for etc. There is nothing wrong with spending as little as possible if you are just starting out, the only problem is that if you do have problems it will probably point to something wrong with the supplies instead of something you are doing.

Enjoy this forum and have a good root round, you will learn loads!
