It's my fault because I spent a lifetime working with computers and teaching people how to get the most out of them without spending money to do it. So I get overly enthusiastic when I find a cheap simple way to do something.
I chose the wrong scripts really to demonstrate, so I removed those posts and links.

Here's the result I was talking about in the previous post. One is what I get out of the script ready to print. Except that I usually choose the option to print 3 to a page, whether the same design or 3 the same.
Another is the output when I choose the option to preview the mug. Again I can choose 1 or 3.
And the last is the result when it is printed. Excuse the difference in blues and yellows. A combination of not having access to profiles (I don;t use Windows or Mac) and the lighting. I do all my work using Linux and Android, and free software. Because I like it.

Quick note to socialgiraffe,

Thanks for the comments. I got sidelined by the accidental layouts output.

In the images above the middle one - a view of what an image would look like printed on a mug, front and back, is what I was aiming for. I could not find an easy way to do that, so I wrote a script program that let me drag any image onto a folder, then it would resize it, curve it and stick it on the picture of a mug. Then I thought, what about the text, so I wrote another line to show the back, and modified it to include text and a full wrap so you can see the last bit of image from the other side.

When I realised that one by product of the script was a 'ready to print' layout, I got excited by the simplicity of it all. But realistically, the useful thing is to be able to make previews of how a mug should look, to send to someone or to put in advertising, and that works great as you can see in the middle picture. And as the videos showed - it takes about a minute.

Ok, it's done. This sort of thing is what I was writing originally. Now it works reasonably and the background colours blend a bit better so they don;t look like a label was just stuck on. Works the same way, edit the text, drag a picture into the folder, press make and wait about 30 seconds.

Works with Linux, Windows and Mac. I made another one that rotates the mug, but it needs the rough edges worked off and cute as it is to be able to do it, I'm not sure I need it now.
