I've added on pic with a different aspect ratio to show how it copes with resize.
It will also let me overlay, so for example I can start with a template with maybe a pattern with a white box in it for the pic, and just change the pic but keep the background on all pics the same. (I'm still fine tuning the positioning.
I found that imagemagick is available for Mac and Windows, so anyone can make a script program to do this.
It will work with ANY font on your computer - so long as there are NO SPACES in the file names of the fonts. So Times_New_Roman.ttf willwork, but Times New Roman.ttf will NOT work.

An image is dropped into a folder and the first script program is run. That sizes the image and generates the coloured text in the desired font. This takes about 1 second. That is repeated 3 times and each file is renamed so you get name1.jpg, name2.jpg and name3.jpg. At the moment that is a manual task, because I want it to work with more than 3 images at a time, but I'm fixing that.

The three images containing a pic and text are copied to the print folder and the print script is run. And this is the final result spaced for ceramic mugs. For polysub mugs it will make the spaces between the pics smaller.

Now, I use LibreOffice Draw to print, and when I drop a large jpeg file onto the page, it automatically resizes the width to fit between the page margins. So the original of this image fits perfectly on a portrait page, but hangs below a landscape one. Which happens to be perfect.

i use cinema 4d to do my mug samples. not quite as automated as your process, obviously requires cinema 4d too, but get some really nice results which I think look great on my website. have shown them to a few people who haven't been able to tell they aren't real photos!

Hi spongerobinson. I started out with the idea of projecting an image onto a pic of a mug. then got sidetracked by the rotating idea because i was curious. So I have a nice pic of a mug prepared. Then I got side tracked by the thought that it would be easy to automate the layouts.

Now I have that working and I've looked at your pic, I will get back to the original project so it outputs not just the layout, ready to print, but a front and back sample on a graphic of a mug.

For me this started because someone on this forum posted asking if it was possible to project an image onto a curved surface. That led me to wonder about animation, then on the the other stuff like autoomating my layouts for printing., Which also happened to lead to the montage of 4 pics into one for the layouts.

Anyway, for anyone interested in playing with ideas, here's Fred's how to and script for doing the cylinder thing and it also shows how to project onto a mug. Note though, his scripts are for non-commercial use.

why not use photoshop action scripts or animator that already exist
