What printer, What ink??????

Hi all newbie here, just starting to get things set up, I am looking at printers to print my designs onto heat transfer paper but there are so many out there, I understand from looking in different forums that Epson printers are highly regarded, any model suggestions would be greatly appreciated, also I am confused about inks, pigment or dye? I welcome any input/advice on both of these subjects.

How big do you want to print?
What is your budget for the printer?
Are you wanting to print to paper, canvas, or both?
Are you wanting to print onto pre-cut sheets, or a roll which you and/or the printer cuts to required size?

Ah ah now you are really exposing my lack of knowledge....... I figure most of my stuff will be A4 but I would like an A3 printer to cover my options, budget wise as inexpensive as I can get for example I have seen an Epson wf2450 for less than £70 but would this type of printer be good for printing to transfer paper? I would only be printing to transfer paper at the moment, I will probably be using Jet-Pro® SofStretch™ Inkjet Heat Transfer Paper or 3G Jet-Opaque® Inkjet Heat Transfer Paper (for coulored T's) in predominantly A4 size with maybe the odd A3 size.
