Re: I can't compete with that!

Post by harlequeen »

I recently had a request from a local school to supply them with a quote for 100 mugs, the design was going to be a child's drawing and I would digitise it and print them. I quoted them £3.50 each as they were to raise money for the school funds.

Now they have said that they can get them off the internet for £1 each, so I said, OK go ahead then. I said I didn't believe that they would get the quality which I would supply, but they are free to go wherever they like.

I wouldn't try to compete with that as it is simply not worth my while. What do you think?

I think they are trying it on and calling your bluff, let them. Dont let it bother you walk away

Just wait for the last minute change of heart if it comes and keep your quoted price.

If they come back to you late in the day, then your price should go up as you'll now have less time to do the job.

I don't expect them to come back, I think they will order via the internet and be disappointed when what arrives is of rubbish quality. I only use quality blanks, so won't do work which is going to cost me.

you can get that number of screen printed mugs for that price on a 6 week service, it is an alternative product, not a competative one!

yep i would imagine they would be ordering a screen printed mug, now you could possibly get a quote from one of the suppliers, listawood etc, to see what they would offer you on a one off order, i have done this before and simply acted as the broker for the deal, 300 mugs which i made very little on, but then did not much work for, bar the invoicing.

you could also offer your school a more personalised mug, per class, per year, even per child and thats why you are offering a premium product.

I would say they are talking out of their a**e. I very much doubt they will find anyone to do a screen printed mug at £1 for 100. Listawood are £1.40 + vat for a 1 colour screenprint on their trade price. They also have £24 + vat set-up and £14 + vat delivery. Total £2.13 all in. I know the other trade printers would be similar and this is to the trade sectors.

Thats just STUPID 99p plus £2.97 postage let them carry on.
Talk about a loss lead.

Reading there feedback:
Print was poor but refunded without much problem so thanks!
One mug printed well, other arrived late and was a reddy colour instead of black
Took a while. Print was wonky on mug & colours were not accurate. Just ok.
I have a short attention span.... HEY LOOK A PLANE!
