RN and Orca coatings
Re: RN and Orca coatings
Can I ask - is there a difference between 'RN' and 'Orca' coatings? Is one recommended over the other? Many thanks. Maggie
Re: RN and Orca coatings
They are different. Long thread on here somewhere about these coatings. RN has been tested to withstanding 1000+ dishwasher cycles. Orca still good, but don't believe it has such a high independent guaranteed test on it.Maggie;73165 wrote:Can I ask - is there a difference between 'RN' and 'Orca' coatings? Re: RN and Orca coatings
Thanks for that. Will do a search for the thread. Sorry if this is a stupid question (I'm clueless!) - I have found china mugs, balmoral style (which I really like), they have the orca coating....does this mean that all of this style of china mug, regardless of where purchased will have the orca coating...or is there a chance I could find some with RN coating?
Re: RN and Orca coatings
I have only used ORCA coated mugs for over 4 years now (since i swapped from laser mugs)
The ones I have in my own house all appear perfect, the tests on day 1 are still bright and colourful, and have been dish-washed at least every other day for 4 years, - so that is over 500 dish washes, and they seem as good as new.
No failures, always perfectly parallel sides, Orca coated mugs, absolutely no complaints. - I get them from magic Touch !
ps - never tried a RN mug, - never saw the need!

Re: RN and Orca coatings
Depends what company stocks the balmoral style and what coating they have on their mugs. Orca is different to Rhino, RN is different again but few of the other brands have independent certification to back up their wash warranty claims.Maggie;73179 wrote:Thanks for that. Re: RN and Orca coatings
Last time I saw the paperwork Rhino was tested for just one wash.
RN and Orca are much the same and very little difference on dishwasher performance.

I agree with Andrew. Although Orca are the better coated mug the end user will not notice any difference. Both last a very long time

Thanks everyone! Eeeek, so many decisions and I haven't even bought a press yet.
Re: RN and Orca coatings
There was a thread here where someone had done some "destructive testing" of a few different mugs with different coatings, but not sure where it is.

Re: RN and Orca coatings
No substitute for testing each type of mug yourself as you may well get different results to other members. Get a couple of samples off each to look at and print/test.
