Printing document folders

Hi,
Can anyone give some advice on printing an image onto an item that has a large ridge in the print area due to stitching. The item in question is a document portfolio and cannot be packed out from behind as it has thick cardboard as part of its construction, the ridge stops an even pressure over the whole print area and I therefore get a faint stripe next to the ridge. I have tried just about everything but with no success, this is getting an expensive experiment.

Is it possible just to lay the printable part in the press with the rest of the item outside to help with getting the item to lay flat (under heavy pressure)?

We had the same problem and gave up in the end. The supplier said that they too didnt know how to fix it and were looking at them being redesigned. Its a shame as they are nice items.
