Sorted!!! I have got rid of the blurring, using the BMS mugs. I now have a banding problem. Darker stripe in two places, vertically. I'm assuming now, it's the press. Starting to get really peed off now!!! Trying using less pressure now. Image on paper looks perfect. I have also changed the paper to the Trupix as recommended, and it's ruled out the other paper. I tried the new paper on the old mugs, same problem. New mugs have got rid of blurring thankfully. There is no banding on the image on the paper, only on the mug. Weak spots on blanket? Brand new bloody machine!!!! Grrrrr

Yes, that's what I'm thinking. I've turned the pressure up quite high, so it takes a bit of a lean on the handle to lock in place, but it's still there. Sent an email to the supplier of the press, and they have asked me to call them tomorrow and they will talk me through it, so fingers crossed

sounds like you might actually have it too tight if you are having to lean on the handle to lock in place

I've tried loosing it right off too. Still firm and the mug unable to move, but really light. I seem to get exactly the same image regardless of pressure. Not an exact science this sublimation lark is it?

I think I may be getting to the bottom of this. I thought I would try printing a solid block of colour, so this i what I printed on the paper

I printed the mug and this is how it came out

http://www.cupsforcops.co.uk/proofs/bandingpink2.jpg

I couldn't see any banding when it was just the text before, even under a magnifying glass, but now I have printed solid colour you can see it clear as day, so it's not the fault of the press, it's the printer/ink.

Using a Ricoh with the chinese ink (i know some of you are going to say its the cheap ink, but others have reported it's brilliant and apart from this banding it is). Do you think a simple clean nozzle cycle will do the trick? Bearing in mind it's a brand new printer.

Also below is a screen shot of my printer menu, could you have a look at that and see if it looks right to you. Printing from a Mac

Wondering if something is set up wrong. I'm using the Sawgrass ICC profile

You need to use powerdriver in the printer drop down menu, not ricoh

Firstly, please be aware that PowerDriver is built to give correct colour output with Sawgrass inks, so even if your Chinese inks are "brilliant", you will not achieve optimum results. Our ICC profiles are, of course, also built for our inks. Secondly, the banding you are seeing is caused, in part, by the ink - I doubt whether the Chinese ink is as viscous as the OEM Ricoh ink or our Sublijet-R ink, so you are seeing over-inking, but also by a slight juddering in the paper feed : this last is inherent in the printer, and cannot be fixed. It shows up more, of course, when you have an inequal ink flow. Come and see us at FESPA, if you can, and we can look at best way to solve your problem.

If your ink is standard sublimation ink and not gel ink then it wont work. How much of this ink you have got left? ?
