Re: Text image blured on mug
Hmm interesting, I do tape. I've looked at many videos on where to take and it seems the general consensus is that a long piece of tape on each end each of the paper which sticks to the mug near the handle. I am wrapping the paper round firmly. I have run under a tap other mugs and it hasn't cracked them, but doesn't seem to have made any difference to the bleed. Again, could this be a poor quality mug, could it be the paper, could it be both? I'm getting the paper off quick, and as soon as it's off, I can see the bleed, so I don't think it's something that's increasing as the mug is too hot still

Re: Text image blured on mug
never used either of those tbh but I've used many different papers. Budget papers in my experience tend to result in poor transfer and/or low resolution. As neither of these appear to be an issue here I'm more inclined to look at the mugs. I only use 10oz myself as I find they are far better quality generally. TBH I'd be looking at getting a couple of sample mugs and a known, reputable brand of paper before I carried on wasting.

Yes I tend to agree with you. As the photograph mug I did was perfect, I think it's bleeding on the coating on the mug. The colours are correct and bright. I had some commercially printed a few months ago, and the colours are pretty much exactly as them, so I don't really think it's the printer/ink or the paper. I'm going to order a box of 36 BMS mugs and see what happens. I have customers waiting so I need to get this sorted ASAP.
Once again guys, I really appreciate all the time and effort you have spent giving me advice and guidance, it is very much appreciated.
I have a recommendation for BMS for mugs, can anyone recommend a paper. And I'm assuming the higher the GSM the better too?

I've always used Xpres paper and it's served the purpose fine. Had a couple of issues recently so switched to TruPix. Many folk will tell you TruPix is the one to go for

Thankyou, I'll order that. Incidentally, the mugs from Monster Doodles are in a box marked Trupix!! So are they Trupix mugs??? Does that mean that Trupix paper is good, but not mugs??

I have a feeling that you are actually over cooking your mug......
first off, only light to medium pressure.
Sure, temp drops significantly when you insert the mug, but 'sub' only actually happens above about 150c so the heat up time is irrelevant.
Why not take one of your spoilt mugs, and press nice fine and fat heavy text in a blank area for maybe about half the time and see.
Really overcooked blacks go blurred and eventually brown.
Always peel straight away, weather you dunk in water or not is open to debate (we don't)
Is the paper still white or beginning to go brown (another sign of overcooking)
I would be tempted to increase your temp 10 or 20 degrees and half your time.
Most of the subbing happens in the first 20 to 30 secs at full heat anyhow, then it is about balancing colour and filling out the solids.
OR,
maybe you just have crap mugs!
In my experience, old blankets do start needing a bit more time & heat
Play around and share your findings!

Re: Text image blured on mug
I will indeed share my findings, thanks for that. The paper is still white, but maybe a bit brown around the edges. Thanks for straigtening out my worry about the warming up. It did seem excessive time to get to temperature. I am printing in dark blue, but I guess that would have the same effect as black. I do peel straight away, and I have tried running under a tap and just leaving to cool naturally, doesn't seem to make any difference. Rather than wasting more ink and mugs, I' ordering some BMS ones this evening and some different paper too, so hopefully, one or the other will make a difference. I will indeed report back as to what the hell has gone wrong, when I eventually get to the bottom of it.
