Re: The best place to purchase mug blankets?

I read a thread on here recently about a member who normally purchases mug blankets from a specific supplier because they sold the best he could find. He did point out that these were double (may have even been treble) the price of a normal blanket but it was worth it. Unfortunately that supplier has now changed to the cheaper blankets so are not an option.

So I was wondering who sells the best blankets?

Not in terms of price but in terms of build quality and temperature consistency and spread.

I presumed they were all fairly similar but obviously not :-)

I can get them rewired and configured to my own presses but was wondering who supplies the best?

not an easy one this i had one from bms a year or so ago and bought another not so long ago which i thought was better to be honest the first had reb sponge the second had blue but i dont know if that makes a differance. my other press i had from nova chrome and i posted a post on this recently, twice the price for a mug blanket not as good as other cheaper suppliers. apparantly all blankets are now made in china but surly theres as many good mafufacturers as bad in china. notcsure how you tell a good blanket from bad until you use it. my nova chrome machine has the same blankets in it as when i bought it 3 years ago but a replcement blanket for the machine fell well short in quality stakes. perhaps a supplier could shed some light on this

Geo Knight make some interesting claims for their blankets, I think Jennywren uses one. Considering options myself including some German kit.

From their advertisingblurb
.At the heart of the DK3 is the SuperCoil-Microwinding™ heater technology, a system of embedded heater windings that wind tightly and closely together throughout the entire platen for extremely even heat, fast recovery & fast heat up times. The DK3 will start up in only a few minutes, and unlike other presses runs constantly at the set temperature, instead of a much lower idle temperature. Unlike other mug presses that use silicone blankets with short lifespans and even shorter warranties, the DK3 boasts an amazing 3-Year / 3,000 mug warranty.

These are similar to the Jarin/ Europa presses. Yes the heat element is long life, but the thin rubber/ silicon seal that accompanies the element has very little give in it. Therefore you have to have very good straight mugs as the blanket has no means of fluctuating to the contours of the mug.

Martin
Must say your presses have done sterling work, with no problems, and I see your point.
