jet black - can anyone really get it printed onto phone cases - as in the same jet black as the plastic phone case itself ?
we done 3 today - 2 came out nearly black on a iphone 5 case - yet on a galaxy note it came out browish - same settings, nothing changed:rolleyes:

is the pure jet black print just a myth ?

you would get jet black if your blank is off white. but on bright white is difficult or actually impossible to get jet black.

Some of the wide format ink manufacturers are coming out with blacker black inks in their inksets. Some as an optional upgrade to their standard set, and some as part of a brand new set.

You could try mixing with Cyan.

If a litho printer needs to get a large area of jet black they will mix in Cyan with it, 100%k and up to 80% Cyan.

I am not sure if this will work or not because the process is very different (obviously) but it might be worth setting up a file with different variations and wasting one cover to see if it works.

Also, I often have the same problem with mugs, however I have found the following produces a perfect black every time. I wrap the mug and place it in a cold mug press and press start. The mug heats up to temp along with the press. When it has reached temperature I simply start the countdown.

Not saying it will work but also might be worth a try.

When you put a "cyanoblack" (which is usually a mix of cyan and black - 40/60/80 C - 100 K) next to a pure black (ie 100% K) the cyanoblack looks "blacker" than the pure black. Whereas if you use 400% "black" (ie 100% of all four colours) this usually comes out a muddy brown/black. This is only a printing trick. Don't know if it would work sub wise but I wouldn't see why not.

I had an old boss who used to go absolutely mental regarding black. She went ape once because the black masthead of a magazine wasn't as "black" as her desk - which was a gloss black laminate. Sometimes people just need to understand the limitations of the process and the substrates used.

question guys -

can you re-print over a metal phone case cover once printed ?
as in multi layer ?

as in - layer of off white - then print another image over that ?

or is it a case of once used that the case/cover done ?

Don't see why not, but why do this when you can create an off white colour as your background colour and do it all in one hit.
