Re: Opencart SSL and web host - now getting them altogether - help please

Post by gstk »

Just paid for an SSL certificate whihc has been installed. The HTTPS: website shows and works. So does the HTTP web site. I have switched SSL on in opencart backend. Can anyone tell me how to configure the site to default to the HTTPS version. I have tried doing the edit Config.php bit and when I do that all I get is forbidden to access the web page.

If anyone can help can they type slowly as I am thick as the proverbial ;0)

Thanks in hope!!

the best way to do this is via .htaccess, have you got that set up correctly as OC should do this for you

I was going to suggest some options. Is you site SSL issued from the vendor as https://yoursite.com or https://www.yoursite.com? Check again your config files against your certificate and change them accordingly.
Is your site in a subdomain?... i.e.....http://yoursite.weebly.com for example? If so you may have been issued the wrong SSL certificate which tend to generally be more expensive.
Is your SSL certificate a shared one?
These are just a few questions to maybe help you find the error. In a last resort attempt, contact your host.... they may not allow for you to setup the SSL yourself unless its on a dedicated IP.

I think I have finally got it working but how do you know if it is truly running secure. The web site comes up at https://domainname.co.uk do I presume that is now secure?
