I hope it's remover and not 'polish' Dave. If this doesn't work try 'brake cleaner' ....the areosol type. I had a similar problem with some clothing transfers (solvent ink and printed on my Versacamm) and because the brake cleaner evaporates and leaves no residue I gave it a try and it worked. I'd recommend you use a sample slate to experiment on in case the inks are affected. If you do try it spray it on a cloth first and then try rubbing the adhesive off because it's possible the aerosol propellant will react with the inks.

Epson 9600 sometimes come up on Ebay, and go for around £600
you'd then need a set of refill carts, which would be around £100

Don't get 2nd hand printer though without seeing it has a good nozzle check pattern

Ideally you'd want to flush the old inks out with printer cleaning fluid/flush, before putting the sublimation inks in.
In the service menus, there is "INIT FILL" option, which will flush the old inks out into the maintenance tank, and load your new inks in.
