Re: Just can't get colors right.

Bought new in from inktec, new sublimation paper, changed settings. After a pic of a baby turned green. I managed to finally get a decent image and thought finally after 18monthsof trying I might of just got the colors right.
I tried one of those test pics of colors today reluctantly and I didn't want to be dissapointedd. Well the green/yellow tinge seems to be gone but now my greys look brown.

I spent thousands on all this equipment and still can't get colors right.
I asked the guy where I got the ink from and he said I didn't need a profile.
I just used adobe rgb or something like that and some sort of colour correction on the print settings.

I went on the intec website and there were profiles there but I didn't know which one to use and I couldn't load them anyway.

Why is this so hard?

I am using an epson 7010

Help!

If spending thousands you should have received a profile for the ink/printer supplier - you really need this to get accurate colours.

I got a profile when I bought all the equipment and the old ink and tried for nearly 18 months and it never worked with help from the guy i bought it from. Got a new ink a couple of weeks ago off someone else but no profile.

All inks need to be profiled for the specific printer - ask PAUL on this forum to produce a profile for you, it may take some time though as he'd need printed paper samples.

When I go into the colour management the is a long list of profiles. As I said I just used the adobe one since I was using photoshop elements.
Is there another I should be using that might be better?

At the risk of sounding harsh and i really dont meant to be so try not to shoot me just yet but it isnt so hard when you know what you are doing and really i dont mean that in an insulting way but it is a fact. All inks need a profile rgb as you were advised to use is a profile its just not the correct one for your ink. some papers even require a differnt profile on my wide format printer i use differnt profiles for a canvas picture than i do for a photo poster. Its the profile that tells your computer how to mix the inks to get the correct colour. For instance sawgrass provide profiles with all their inks for individual printer models even then they may not be perfect personally ive never had a problem with sawgrass profiles but i know some people have had a custom profile made even for sawgrass inks in a manner how john has described .
The problems will arise when you buy inks which are either from a not so reputable seller or differnt makes of ink sawgrass profiles for instance will not work so well on a non branded ink so if you have bought ink from inktec then buy ink from elsewhere you would probably need to reprofile.
This is such a simple thing yet getting it wrong as you have found can stop you in your tracks , if its taken 18 months and you still havnt got the result you want i think you may have been listening to the wrong people !

Then theres other factors then which must be causing this it could be your set up or how you have your settings in elements remember the only info you have given us is my colours arnt right, thats a bit like taking a car to a garage and saying its not working whats wrong with it
There could be a whole range of things that you havnt set up right to offer any real help we would need to know what profile you are using how your settings are set etc id get all this info together first . Start from the begining and note it all down then put the info here and hopefully the answers should follow . we need to know the ink you are using the paper you are using the settings in your software you are using have you got the paper set to matte for instance are you printing the brighter side of the paper or the dull side then what temps and times are you using on your press what mugs are you using all this makes a differance this isnt a pick up and go business im afraid

Did you not get in touch with Sawgrass for support if using genuine/supported ink?

I only ask as I had problems and got in touch with Sawgrass who were very, very good in sorting my problem out as I was using supported inks so could find the support when required.
