Ricoh SG3110DN INK VANISHING?
Re: Ricoh SG3110DN INK VANISHING?
I have just gone to use my Ricoh SG 3110dn after a 2 week holiday and all the inks vanished from the colour cartridges and half the black ink, no one has been here to use it while I was away?
has anyone else had this problem? or has anyone any ideas why it may have vanished?
I left it on standby while I was away rather than turning it off what do over people do or suggest when they are not using theirs for a while?
Thank you in advance for your help fellow printers.

Hi John
I was under the impression to leave it on as it uses a lot of ink on start up?

To prevent to Ricohs clogging, they flush ink through the heads automatically while on or in standby mode - if you turn them off fully then they cannot do this, and you risk having a clogged printer.
One thing to do though is update the firmware of the printer, as Ricoh have reduced the amount of ink used in these auto-flushes.
Also, historically, there have been cases of people turning off thier printers, and them not turning back on again,so I wouldn't advise doing it for that reason too.

Thank you Pisquee
That is very helpful I have never had this happen in the past, but in the 2 weeks I was away the coloured inks have gone from half full to saying they are all low of ink, so that obviously is a lot of ink gone somewhere :frown:

Re: Ricoh SG3110DN INK VANISHING?
OK - I have a Ricoh but its an older model (5050n) - I switch this off every night as sometimes there isn't work for it the next day. I've left this printer for 2 - 3 weeks switched off and haven't had the blocking issues mentioned. If there is no work for it - it remains switched off.
One of the reasons I chose Ricoh is because of the wider nozzles and the gel inks - this was supposed to alleviate blockages and was a selling point.
So what's the point in leaving it on for weeks to do auto head cleans when one switch on and one head clean would be surfice.
Cheers John

Hi John
I admit this makes sense but it is the amount of ink that is bugging me that it has used 3x half cartridges is about £60 in ink gone
Thanks

from memory, the initial installed cartridges are only small starter cartrridges and you don't get as much use from them as you do with proper replacement carts, something to do with priming the heads or something .....
