His is very true but i have never been a big fan of ebay so powerseller on ebay is not something that interests me at all.
I would rather have a successfull website and no ebay than be a powerseller on ebay because of there ridiculous fees.

But, if you're using Ebay as a tool for people to find your normal website, they are more likely to find it, if you are top of the best match lists for their searches (which usally entails having PowerSeller/Top Rated Statuses)

They buy from you on ebay, that is when you are collecting their email address, there is no option for them to opt out, therefore you cannot use this infomation legaly to send them a newsletter.

you seem to be ignoring this bit.

and you are breaking the anti spam law you are not giving a simple opt out when FIRST collecting data.

If you dont understand the anti spam law thats not my fault.

Ask yourself why no-one else does it
Why you have to tick/untick a box on business sites giving them permission to email you?
Dont you think every business on ebay would be spamming newsletters to customers if they could?

i agree in a way. But the cost of getting to powerseller status in the amount of products you have to sell to get the feedback required. Would it not make sense to actually use that money to market your own website.

My point meldean is that it is illegal if you get the contact details from ebay.

You can use paypal and IPN and what company you like to send out newsletters to anyone who has opted in from you own website,
and indeed ebay have a system where you can use to send out newsletters when people have opted in
there is no problem sending out newsletters to customers who have opted in, that is what the programs are for.
Not to spam people who buy from you on ebay, it is against anti spam law.

but the crucial bit is the buyer has to opt in or be able to opt out, this is the bit you seem to be having problems understanding.
Someone buying on ebay does not opt in or have the ability to opt out of your newsletter at poing of collection of email, therefore illegal.

THE CUSTOMER HAS THE OPTIONS YOU HAVE MENTIONED. THEY CAN OPT IN AND OPT OUT. INFACT THE SYSTEM USES A DOUBLE OPT IN SYSTEM. THE DETAILS ARE FROM PAYPAL NOT EBAY.

THAT IS ALL I HAVE TO SAY ON THE MATTER AS ITS LIKE TALKING TO PORK.

I think for a large proportion of the population, if they want to buy something online they go straight to Ebay (or maybe Amazon) to find the product they want, so for my business on Ebay (which isn't selling sublimated products like custom mugs) it is very much worth the Ebay and PayPal commisions etc, as without selling on Ebay there is no way I would have made the sales/profits I have, if it had only been through my own website, as people would have still been looking on Ebay and not Google.

Yeah i agree with what you are saying. It depends on where you want to go really.
Personally i prefer to build my customer base up for my own website that way you can lock down your customers to become loyal ones that return again and again and again because the product is top quality and they know it is.

There is no cost in getting to powerseller level.

To get to bronze powerseller level you only need to sell £2000 and 100 items in a year.
Thats easy to do ive just done it in 3 months.
and should be TRS soon as well, i am in the top 4 in the search floating between 1 and 4 and this has not cost me a penny to do this, but made me good profit.
