Evening all.

Ever had one of those days when everything you touch turns to dust? I'm having one today!

I currently use Photoshop Elements 10, and have been designing mug templates simply using blank areas measuring 9x20cm, and printing 3 off to an A4 sheet. However, the resolution seems to be a bit iffy at times, even with really good hi-res photos. I'm sure there must be a simpler and more effective way to do this and keep the resolution, but it's been a long day!

Any suggestions?

you setting them up at 72dpi or 300dpi? 72dpi is usually used for screen, and 300dpi is usually used for print. I recall something in the Sawgrass setup guide about using 72dpi, but I've always used 300dpi and had great results.

paper area divided by paper size gives me 3 mugs. NOTHING to do with image quality/resolution.
Set your page to AT LEAST 200dpi - and provided you have an image at least 500 pixels high you will get pin sharp results.
- provided the photo was good to start off with, and you don't over sub your mugs, and you have good kit, and your print head is clean, and you are profiled, and use good mugs, and use good paper,

of course the paper size has nothing to do with resolution, but OP said the resolution seems to be iffy at times, so this could definitely be to do with the documents being set up at too low a resolution.

What i would usually do is set up a Photoshop file at A4 dimensions, and then place my 3 different pieces of artwork into said document for printing. Haven't had a bad print yet, apart from when I keep forgetting to mirror the image!
