Re: Xpres Paper Sticking to Mugs

I'm sure I solveed this before!

When we print a mug using the Xpres transfer paper 3.5 mins @ 200 using light pressure, the paper sticks to the mug. I recall that the paper used to just fall away.

Any tips - been a while since we did mug printing!

Which mugs? Could be the coating on them. We recommend pressing at 180, your temp might be too high as well.

Thanks for the reply Martin.

The mugs are probably from TMT as we can't remember buying from elsewhere! We haven't used any in 6 months or so.

We'll reduce the heat and try again - will report back.

Is there an accurate way to test the actual heat of the presses?

Cheers

You can test temp on blanket with an ifra-red thermometer. About £20 to buy from places like Maplin.

Certainly sounds like to much heat to me as well. Melting the coating a touch which then allows the fibres of the paper to attach. 200c shouldn't melt the coating if the temp is correct. I have a starting point of 195c for 2.5 mins which usually is spot on for most prints and that is on a few different press makes.

Xpress paper is basically espon matt which should be fine at 200 as we use it all the time on hard stuff at that temp.

TMT unfortunately are low quality mugs, and if using one of their Black presses for mugs they recommend, idle 150 print 190 and time 15 seconds.

This may not solve you issue but it is the TMT way of doing it.

Is that right David? Use Xpres paper for years and it was very good, different feel and weight to Epson matt though.

I find Xpres gives a slightly better print than the Epson. Decent paper for most substrates.
