i have an epson 1400 i love this machine it has great print quality but whilst printing it went into one of those automated charging cycles where its pretending to install new inks and the cyan disappeared completely . After many head cleans anti clog soloutions etc i ended up with a new cart assembly courasy of BMS all was well for a month then once again during an automated pretend ink installation the cyan went again this time i spoke to saw grass who sent me a new ink system all worked well again for a few weeks then guess what yep yet again cyan went yet again changed cart assembly yet agin it worked great until this week and yet agin cyan has gone aghhhhhhh
Im gonna try setting up the new 1500 i have sat in the shop i wonder if i'll get any futher with that ...... watch this space

Hi Purple

Sorry to hear you are having so many problems, have you thought about swapping to Ricoh?

Cart assembly for a CISS type system, or just refill carts?
We gave up on 1400 models using Sawgrass as we had too many similar issues and that was the catalyst to moving to proper Epson professional (wide format) printers, and better quality bulk inks - Have never looked back.

I'd ditch the CISS and go with refill carts - too much to go wrong with them, and that printer isn't designed to be sucking ink from big tanks along long tubes.
We started on the 4000 and have worked up through the 7600 to the 9600 (essentially same printer, just different sizes.) Older Epson models admittedly, but certainly built to last in a commercial print environment. All bought from Ebay at relatively low prices - we just got a 7600, which we're using for pigment inks for only £275 and was hardly used!

My 1500 continues to work a treat, only difference is I've swapped out the standard CIS for a new one from City Ink, used these a few times now and touch wood never had any issues. I still question the Ricoh print quality versus the 6 colour epson.

Im with you on this justin i have a ricoh 7700 which works great but i think the quality of a 6 colour is much better but ive had just about enough of the problems with the ciss systems

Only home printer we have is a PX720WD, this has a CISS system with pigment inks loaded for is we need to use it as a backup for art printing onto A4, but for of the time it is just the general printer for office/admin stuff. CISS sometimes has issues, but doesn't have to be as reliable in this role. Is a nice A4 6 colour printer (and scanner) though - same carts as 1400.

I have two 1400s one with sub ink in and one with pigment ink in, both on Ciss and have not had any problems with either of them! I also run the very old 220 with an ordinary ink Ciss, again never had any problem with the Ciss, the problem I am having on the 220 is the paper feed, I think because I use the 220 for the charity work that I do and do a heck of a lot of printing, that I have warn out the feed rollers!

We have a 1500 running with an Easyflow system off BMS - it's been running fine since Christmas but it's just so annoying having to press the button on the inks every 2 minutes!!! With the trusty 1400 printers you can give them 50 page print jobs and leave them alone in the background - but with the 1500 you have to babysit it and push the bleeding button all the time as it just stops dead flashing it's lights

Is this just something you have to put up with or is it due to the ink system? Do the ink systems from CityInk work better?

I know the 1400 is a pain for having to re-prime due to blockages every few months as purpledragon says, but on the whole I prefer them by far to the 1500...
