Re: First Photo Slate what do you think??

Post by marksbananas »

I have just pressed my first photo slate and for a newbie i think i did well  only issue was it came out with the black area all blocky, since i have noticed that it was this way on the print, if anyone can offer any pointers as to how to stop that happening as i am sure it is something in the software but other wise trouble free job, used medium pressure 190degrees for 7 minutes with silcone pad on top, also pre warmed the slate for 2 minutes with silcone pad in place.
Like i say the only issue was the blocking of the black areas, so bit peed off that it ruined it and would like some advise on whats causing that as other wise the image is spot on nice clean crisp finish
Thank you

Mark, I'm just about to sign off for the night...but what software are you using to edit your photos?!?!? I'm thinking you maybe need to 'tell it' what black is so that it can determine it's levels. Someone else might answer overnight. Also, was your photograph of a high enough resolution!?!?! Were the dimensions good enough..i.e. was it taken on a good camera or on a phone camera as that could obviously reduce the 'information' in the photo!?!?

Thanks for reply. I am using photoshop and the image was taken from a professional photo shoot from there cd. The image was huge I had to reduce it down to fit on the template I made. The resolution was 300 dpi issued that image as I thought would be the best quality as direct fro the cd they supplied from the shoot. I set power driver to ceramics and saturated.

I've seen that effect when an incorrect profile is used or setting isn't right in Photoshop. Not sure if that's your problem but worth running through everything very carefully a couple of times and checking :-)

Justin is right. It can be your ps settings but also you said you reduced size of the picture. It was 300dpi but what was the dpi of your template? Not to high i presume as you said you had to reduce size. In this case you lowered quality of your photograph.

I don't know if its the camera you took the photo of the slate with, but the photo on the slate doesn't look like a studio or pro quality image - are you sure you didn't effect the quality when you resized?
