Just bought mother a laptop at pc world the other day(her first one) and the thing had windows 8 on it - dam i thought, i know nothing about this O/S,and mother is gonna be on the phone "a lot" asking what to do...

so had to get it really

I just upgraded to Win 7 Pro 64 Bit for my new PC. I have not looked at Win 8 yet but I'm reading that many folk are downgrading back to Win 7 even if they have to pay.

Be interesting to hear how you get on with it.

It seems the general feeling on many forums is 'Windows 8'....avoid like the plague. I've yet to read of anyone liking or getting on with it. Being new it appears there's a lot of previously installed software that will not run on it.

Lol, exactly, just because it doesn't suit some doesn't mean it won't be right for you :-)

I had my doubts before going to 7 but it's made a big difference to me.

I bought a new laptop just after new year from Argos and picked one with windows 7 but upon opening and starting up the laptop it was windows 8 not 7, I called the store to be told some laptops they have just had delivered have 8 installed on them (they really should state this in catalogue)

i CANNOT stand windows 8 it's the worse ever, i wouldn't recommend it to anyone

i remember when XP first came out. people were saying the same thing- i,ll stick with windows ME lol.
and the same was said about every other O/S system that has come out since - well, apart from vista, which really was total pants for an O/S. Nothing much worked properly and getting drivers for it was an absolute nightmare. I went back to XP till WINDOW 7 came out, vista was that bad.

This new window 8, seems more involved, and may need some time to learn.
It is based on W7, supposed to be anyway.
and W7 will be getting phased out around 2020...that ok, you got around 7 yrs to learn this one lol

will let you guys know how i get on - once the darn thing downloads  - probably tomorrow by the looks of things

GRRRRR....

up until 5am this morning trying to get this darn thing to work.
And its still not !

loaded/upgraded fine but i didnt have ANY password on my previous W7 and now its created it own one.
Since found out it used your window live login details.
fine, used the password for windows live - nope. went through every dam password i have ever used .nope.

so - changed the password on window live to new one - still window 8 will not let me login . keep saying wrong password ! - it cant be - i just changed the dam thing.
On further reading on the net - this is a MAJOR FLAW with windows 8 just now - this exact problem. Some have had there laptops for weeks, they do a Microsoft update, then they are locked out with the same prob i have!

have tryed password unlocker software, going into the bios, booting from cd.....nothing works.
seems like i will have to do a fresh install. - Now that it total pants, cause i will lose Gb's of music and music vids if i do this.

not the best of starts now is it:mad:
