just got rid of the flu after 3wks - great...
then i woke up 3 days ago with one hell of a lower back pain....still have it and its going down my leg and into my right groin area now.
it sound like Sciatica. but surely that would not go into the right side groin area as well as my lower back and down the right leg ?.

pain is really disabling and i,m struggling to get up/down stairs. even walking about the house is painful.
I,m already on paracetamol/dihydrocd 500/30 for pains in my legs at night. started taking 2 of these during the day, but even these are not helping - this aint good
sitting at the pc working is a nightmare for pain....but i need to do the work !

thinking doc for later on this week - but i hate to keep going down there in case they think i,m a bloody hypochondriac or something - i have never been to the docs as much in my life since i turned 40 - sucks, sucks and sucks

Sorry to hear of your pain BigJ

Apart from I hope it clears up soon I can say the following:

My wife is a nurse and has seen many cases where the patient did not want to go to the doctors as they felt they were "causing a fuss about nothing" As she has said many times, would you rather be called a hypochondriac or ignore a potential illness?

Sounds like you need to call the doctor out rather than travel down there as well

call him out ? lol you having a laugh here bud ? - you dont know where i live do you ?

there appoinment system here its (not using sweary words now) really stupid.
you CANNOT book an appointment weeks or months ahead - you have to phone at 8.30am to see if there are any available.
you phone at 8.32am - sorry all bookings are taken - OH COME ON HERE - what a joke this place is.
i have never heard of any practice running in this way - where i came from(20yr ago) outside of Glasgow, you could get to see doc the same day - anyday - i asked the doc the last time i was in about there stupid way of running ( docs are great and down to earth), but all i got was - it was there practice policy

will get my mother to phone - they seem to like her

Johnny I had something similar in my rallying days & it was always a trapped nerve in my back. I then used to go to physio & in no time at all I would be ok. I used to go to a private sport physio which was paid for by the team I drove for. He was the physio for the Bradford Bulls Rugby League team & boy you did feel it when he worked on you. The main thing is he always had me back on my feet after just a couple of sessions with him.

Also, did anyone tell you once you hit 40 a new bit of your body decides to play up everyday......lol.

As for getting to see a doctor do what I have done a few times in the past. Just go to the surgery tell them you will wait till the doctor has seen all the patients & then you will see the doctor. They can't turn you away & if they do try just remind them of the hypocratic oath all doctors take which they cannot attend someone who is ill or needs their help. A good example of this is if you were taken ill on a plane they would usually ask if one of the passengers were a doctor & that person who is a doctor cannot refuse to help you. I've done it a couple of times & the receptionist has tried to turn me away & then they call through to the doctor who tells the receptionist I'm correct.

your doctors sounds just like ours, cannot make appts in advance - unless it would seem you are over 70 or unemployed - best you can hope for is the nurse practictioner who normally tells you she cant deal with it, but if you are lucky can find you an appt with a doctor less than 10 days away - the surgery here seriously needs to get a grip on the real world - over xmas mark contracted norovirus, and because of other health issues, we asked for the doctor to come here, the receptionist said no - so i took a pot of "stuff for testing" to the reception desk - and was offered a home visit

Hope you get better soon BigJ - I've been off work since 3.00pm Fri - couldn't carry on at work as I didn't know which end to put on the loo :frown: i'll spare you all the details. I've managed 2 slices of toast now in 2 days and have lost 8 lbs since Fri but may have to call doctors (for an appointment in 2 weeks time maybe) as there seems no end to this and I've been sitting on and off the bog now, every hour, day and night, for 5 days.

Never had a day off in 20 years but had 2 off now in a week - I did manage an hour Monday, and an hour and a half today, but called it a day and went back to bed.
This is on top of the flu like symptoms the whole family had over xmas - great start to the new year.

Mustn't grumble though!
