Re: Izettle - perfect for car booters and small market traders?
I did like the look of this at first, I just can't get into my head being presented with a mobile phone, unit attached and being asked to put my card in and then supply my signature. I'm just playing devils advocate but I can see a lot of customers being very weary.

It just reminds me of the units that were used in the scam where they were attached to cash machines! lol.
I do like this sort of tech though, maybe it's just me but I do think a lot of folk would be asking questions.

this looks interesting for doing fairs etc. Only small payment amounts so might take a punt and see how it works out.
Re: Izettle - perfect for car booters and small market traders?
nice idea but i would also have to say NO to giving someone my credit or debit card to swipe through there phone for payment. Alarms bells for me would be ringing as soon as he said the payment method....na na....NEXT !

All that happens with any card reader is you swipe it through a phone.
How do think the info goes to the banks? Pigeon perhaps?

Which is true, but the public perception may be somewhat different, and it be hard convincing them to put their details into a stranger's phone compared to a proper PDQ.JMugs;60659 wrote:All that happens with any card reader is you swipe it through a phone.

These are some of the comments that have come up on Facebook about iZettle which make interesting reading with some good points.
Having just signed up with iZettle I was *then* notified that manual transactions are more expensive: "For manual transactions on your device, the fee is £0.10 + 3.5 %."
Unfortunately it's not available for Blackberry yet.
It looks like its signature based rather than PIN based which is a worry and in the event of a fraudulent transaction who takes the risk? Currently the risk is with the merchant account who guarantees the trader but is this the traders loss?
Will my card details be stored on someone's iphone or ipad then?
Brilliant. Credit card fraud straight to some blokes iPhone.
I think it's a great idea, but how safe is it? How will my clients be able to trust it when at first glance of the device being connected to an iPhone may think it will store there card details, this needs to be marketed more to gain the common mans trust.
Haha that looks so moody there's no way I would ever let someone put my card in a random machine connected to a mobile phone!!
"Hi there sir. Ah, our main card machines are down unfortunately but we have a backup form of payment here at Argos. Yes, that's right sir, just stick that here. Excellent. Enjoy your day"![]()
I've been trying to log in to the app on my iPhone and I'm having trouble it won't let me in it keeps saying error try again later it's been like this for the past week.
Its not what it seams. They tell you its for sole traders but its actually only available to limited companies, LLP's and PLC's and the personal card reader is useless because visa accept only very low payments, and most people use visa.
I have my apple reader but my concerns are about the length of time it takes for funds to clear in my account. I understand it could take up to 3 weeks before I see my money at which time I could have handed over thousands of pounds worth of merchandise to people I will never see again. How can you guarantee I won't end up out of pocket if someone disputes the payment?

was only stating the blind obvious....

There is no such thing as a free lunch.
a little over 50% of our sales come through card payment. If you don't take them, what are you missing?
Since I am a permanent market stall I can use a phone/tethered system, but remember, I choose to pay another phone line rental to support the card reader.
If you are a quality outlet, that gives confidence, you will have no issues getting your customer to put their card in any knid of terminal.
Just think of the ones in pubs/resteraunts, - they are either sim card systems, or local radio systems.
We read of local field payment systems, oyster, contactless payments etc.
If you stick your clients card into the bottom of your iPhone/droid and ask them to sign they will not bat an eyelid, might even be impressed with your innovation.
Visa debt accounts for 50% of our sales.
I doubt we are asked if we take AMEX more than twice a year.
Of course, one of the really big bonuses of taking card payments, is not having to touch cash. No counting up, no running out of change, don't need to go to the bank, lower bank charges coz you have less of the green stuff........
If I understand it, it is only £20, and that is credited back, what's not to like ?
