Re: Ricoh GX7000 - Yellow cast

Post by michaelc »

Hi,

I've been using my present PC for a year with no changes made to the settings in that time. I use Win 7, CS2, and a Ricoh GX7000 without the Power Driver. Everything has been stable and satisfactory until this morning. For no reason that I can fathom all my printed mugs now have a yellow cast to them; skin tones are off, blues look slightly green, greyscales are yellowish. I've checked all my settings, so have Xpres support. The printer (20,000 prints) still gives a perfect nozzle check.

Any thoughts?

Well last time a yellow cast was an issue with a Ricoh it was the cyan cartridge at fault.

Obviously either too much of a colour or too little of a colour is being put down on the paper and that is normally controlled (utilising an ICC profile) by the printer went it is working normally.

So the fault is either hardware (the cartridge or printer) or the wrong ICC profile.

Are you sure you have not somehow changed a setting such as paper type in the printer driver leading to a colour shift?

Thanks for the thoughts re cartridges. It never occurred to me that a cartridge could cause the problem. I changed the yellow yesterday!

I've just set up a spare PC with CS2 and the printer driver and ICC profile and all the settings laid down by Xpres. Same result, so I now know the issue lies with the printer. I'll try a new yellow cartridge.

Sorry Paul, not with you, PD?

What a dreadful time of year to have tech problems! I'll be idle tomorrow instead of churning out mugs. Ah well, chance to tidy the workshop.

Take the image into something like Word and print via PowerDriver. Does the yellow cast still appear? If not then it is a setting in the Photoshop software - are you using ICC profiles in CS2?
