Re: Ink set up

Post by twinsgran »

Before I go charging in, what advice would you give me to get the inks set up and working right on my brother 5910dw? I got the inks and cartridges from ink-girl and I'm ready to go. Are there any pitfalls I should look out for? Should it print out clearly straight away or will it require cleaning etc?
Sorryfor all the questions but I don't want to get it wrong and mess it up.

Well the first question is did you buy sublimation ink? I am assuming you bought the Brother for sublimation purposes.

If it is the right ink then just fill your cartridges and insert them fully. This is often a tad further in than you think you need to push them.

If the cartridges are recognised then the printer should begin a priming period. Once primed print a test sheet out and if it looks ok you can try a print on sublimation paper.

The Brother printers seem to work best with the normal paper setting and just mirror the image.

Without an ICC profile the colours and your printouts may not be the correct colour so you will need to seek 'Paul''s advice and help there.

I would expect that the ink isn't sublimation. Artainium sublimation ink is around £60 per 125ml per colour and I'd guess "ink girl" has just sold you "ink".

second what martin said above - ink girl dont sell sub inks i,m afraid.
you either bought dye inks or pigment inks from her(him).

i only bought my extra large carts for my 5910dw's from ink girl, and some pigment inks for another printer - sub inks you will have to source elsewhere.

I've been a bit slow getting back on the forum. Things to do. Anyway, thanks for the above comments. Sorry I think I mis-worded my post. Typing a bit too quick! I meant to say I've got the inks. [proper sub. ones] and got the cartridges. It was the cartridges that came from ink-girl...sorry for the confusion. Someone recommended her to me.
I haven't had time to do anything with them yet so I'm still happy to have any help. I see the cartridges have come with little coloured stoppers. I presume they are used after filling the cartridges? What is the other little hole for?
