I had a customer that I did some engraving for, he said I made a mistake, (I did ) I apologize did a bit arse licking and a small free gift and problem solved. Not being a ebay seller it didn't not effect me at all, the customer was happy, mistake rectified and reputation intact Thank God. We all make mistake but like the chance to make good our mistakes but ebay doesn't give you that chance before it effects your ratings. You think that they would give you a week to put it right before complaints took effect.

wouldnt touch Ebay with a barge pole TBH. To many guys selling same things as myself for peanuts, making very little profit.
whats the point ?
and the customer is always right ebay motto - oh shut the front door Ebay - there are obvious times when the customer is taking the p***, and they STILL back the customer.
only thing about ebay is - it gets your name out there and for SEO on the web, its also great - but at what cost ?

i have a ebay acc for my sub business, but NEVER used it, cause of the facts above, and the fees.
i,ll stick to building up my online store slowly and hammer the SEO tactics thank you very much.....and to get an shop up the main st...HA ! up here ?....double HA !...christ, if it any more than a quid, there not bloody interested
wouldnt waste my time and cash with it.
internet is the way to go friends -wider scope of people, yes who still have strong competition from the like of "purple dragon" and others, but they have all been going for years, i,m just the new kid on the block who has to build mine up...patience and learn.

On the rare occassion that I have sold on ebay and received negative or even neutral feedback I have always replied to the feedback with something along the lines of "one negative in one thousand positive feedbacks shows customer is in the wrong for this post"

Not put it too eloquent there but you know what I mean.
Some great comments comming out here at the end of the day ebay is a means to an end but hugly frustrating Giraffe i agree with everything you say here , the negs do and did get to me a bit more than it should really when it comes down to it its not the comments that bother me most its the fact that it impacts on my top rated seller ratings this in turn then impacts on where my items come in a search as top rated sellers tend to be found first so its not the comments but the effect that it has. just as an experiment i messaged the person who gave me a neg feedback for what was a stupid reason in my opinion heres the message and their reply and in turn my reply back if nothing else it will show how petty some people will be i will add the names have been hidden to protect the stupid.

initial feedback the item is an iphone case :- Poor quality.. Glue has leaked out from behind picture..very unhappy

my message to them
Hello
i notice you have now given us negative feedback not only do i feel this is unfair this also impacts directly on me as a small businees and my livly hood (this isnt a spare time thing it is my main income)Firstly i cant understand why you would do this when i have offered to sort out the problems for you i offered a replacement and answered you almost straight away. Secondly you are incorrect the glue hasnt leaked its double sided tape so cannot leak its simply a small bit of tape thats left over the edge slightly it can be very easily removed and you would be none the wiser this does not impact on the quality of the item at all. I did offer to do this for you which you didnt want so fair enough i then offered to replace the whole item for you i cant understand why you have now gone straight to negative feedback. I respectfully ask you to reconsider this feedback and to allow it to be removed i could understand if i had refused to help you with this but i have been more than helpfull at every step of the way by offering to replace the item and refund any postage you inccur sending it back i really dont see what more i couldve done
I look forward to your reply

their reply

I do understand it is your business but i was not happy with the soultion.

The item was a gift for a birthday and i was unhappy that it could be sent in this way without being checked. You did reply swiftly but i couldnt return the item as it was already given as a gift..

I thought the right option would have been send a replcement ( that was correctly made ) and i would have returned the faulty unit

my final reply

Hello
Im struggling to understand this you say you were unhappy with the soloution it was you who asked for a replacement we agreed and agreed to pay return postage this was your soloution how can you be unhappy with your soloution?
you say it was a gift but you also say you were going to send the item back once id sent a replacemnet how can you send it back if you have already given it away? also i dont know of any shop online or otherwaise who would give you a replacement without getting the faulty one back first.
The item was correctly made you claimed glue had leaked out but this was incorrect as its doublesided tape that holds the plate in place its impossible for tape to leak, ive checked my existing stock and yes on some the same thing occurs and as i said in previous messages it is very easily removed and i did offer to do this for you had i spotted this before sending thats what i wouldve done and you would be none the wiser. So in essance there was nothing wrong with the item itself. I feel the feedback recieved was unfair especially since it was your choice not to allow me to rectify the issue
regards
Brett

I just cannot understand why Ebay doesn't listen to both sides when it comes to negative feedback. As they say there is always two sides to every story & this is a prime example. The big problem with Ebay is that there isn't a rival any of us can use that gets to the same number of potential customers so, we can't really go anywhere else & Ebay know this. One of the things that really does annoy me about Ebay is that you see sellers breaking all the copyright laws with loads of negative feedback & Ebay let them continue with a shop even though they clearly are a problem seller. If that was a shop on the high street trading standards would have probably shut them down by now & probably prosecuted them too.

Think theres only one comment there ian and thats
money talks !!!!!!

what is needed is a real rage against the machine something that would make ebay sit up and take notice but ebay are far to big now at the end of the day apart from moaning what you gonna do ? the answer is theres nothing you can do

Sadly Brett money does talk & that is the only thing Ebay are really interested in.

I couldn't agree more that sellers need to get together to make some kind of protest but, sadly that is never going to happen. However I did notice that Ebay came up on the government tax avoidance radar last week but, again nothing will be done about that either. We are just the small cogs making the big Ebay machine work to earn them lots of money.

Brett, when you send somethign out via ebay what do you pack in with it ???? a flyer perhaps linking back directly to your own business, rather than the via-ebay way, i have finally got a small shop on ebay mostly to sell bits of overstock from the bike side of things, and am putting a flyer in with every sale i am just waiting for the negative feedback to come, you know it will, and you also know with how they work there is not a damned thing you can do about it.

I am still trying to get over the listing deals, i had to call to get an upgrade on how many items i can list, its now 100, but i am mostly getting rid of pin badges at £2 a time, so thats a max of £200 in a month, not the £3,500 limit that goes with a 100 item limit - why oh why cant they see that, my shop fees, and selling fees and paypal fees will have eaten away any profit on the items, grumble, grumble

When you call to raise your selling limits keep trying until you get the Irish office, they are much more helpful than the Indian one.

no, brett to be honest that sounds like the mentallity of an average ebayer, I make sure i mention that my normal site takes paypal so they have the same buying rights as buying from other sites ie EBAY - might be worth pointing out to some of them
