Epson B1100 ink problems, particularly Black!!
Re: Epson B1100 ink problems, particularly Black!!
Hi all,
We're on our second B1100. The 1st one gave up the ghost printing black.
We came to the conclusion it was because we bought some ink from a seller on Ebay.
The ink was Artanium but out of date. After a while we discovered "snotty" deposits in the bottom of the bottle.
This seemed to have blocked the printer nozzles and NO amount of cleaning, using various cleaning solutions would bring the black back to life!!
So, we purchased a new printer and CISS system. All ran well until last week when the black went off again.
I've only gotten to look at the printer today and, lo and behold, the bottle of black has "snots" in it!!
The ink is Artanium, purchased from BMS, with a use by date of 12/10/2013.
It's stored in a darkened place and at reasonably constant temperature.
Can anyony shed light as to whats happening, how to prevent it but, more importantly, how to clean the printer!!!
Baz & Linda.

Are you shaking the bottle before decanting into your CISS?
How often do you print?

Hi Pisquee,
Not shaking the bottle prior to decant. Print probably twice per week doing maybe 10-15 x A3 prints per session.

Baz & Linda, I think you might find reading the link very interesting as it was the same problem you are having http://www.dyesubforum.co.uk/vbforum/sh ... #post58595
Re: Epson B1100 ink problems, particularly Black!!
I would definitely recommend giving the bottle a shake before decanting, as the actual "ink" that sublimates in the bottle is very small solid particles. Giving the bottle a shake helps to stop these bits all settling at the bottom of the bottle, and not getting a good mix into your printer, otherwise if the bits have all settled at the bottom, your colours won't be right, and towards the end of the bottle, you are more likely to get clogs.
This explanation somewhat simplified, and I'm not saying that it is necessarily what has happened in your case.

said it once ill say again i think its the b1100 itself ... all these problems seem to come with this model id suggest ringing sawgrass great people who are extremely helpfull that is assuming you bought a printer from a sawgrass approved dealer

How/Why would the printer itself cause there to be residue at the bottom of an ink bottle that had some of its ink decanted into the printer - the ink at the bottom of the bottle has had no physical contact with the printer.

All the inks have residue i have a couple of old ciss bottles here which have a small layer of residue at the bottom of each chamber particually the yellow and cyan i wasnt suggesting the b1100 caused this as you say how could it i was just voicing my opinion that the b1100 seems to be very problematic and it may not be the residue thats the problem more how the printer deals with the ink in my opinion and it is just my opinion the b1100 has problems in this area a quick search would show theres quite a few on the board who have had b1100 issues sorry for any confusionpisquee;59631 wrote:How/Why would the printer itself cause there to be residue at the bottom of an ink bottle that had some of its ink decanted into the printer - the ink at the bottom of the bottle has had no physical contact with the printer.
