Some bloody great points there Ian.

If the advertising channel is closer to your business it will cost more to advertise.

I must admit i am not big fan of suppliers to be part of the forum. Nothing personal to any of suppliers. But lot of post can not be taken objective.

I remembe we had some good tread here about something and two suppliers get involved. It was bit like dog eat dog... No good to forum...

I appreciate that this is Justin's call to make, and am happy with that. I am just joining the debate really. From my point of view, barely a day passes that I don't check in here to see what's new and what is being discussed. I think fb can be a good place to advertise, but not really for trade suppliers. Imagine if Branston or Heinz advertised on fb and offered to sell items direct to the public for less than they can buy them in Tesco. They would go there, not so good for Tesco that.

I do think that members miss out more if we don't have the offers shown here. Most of us buy from BMS anyway, but might miss special offers as I don't visit their site everyday, as it is not as dynamic as a forum.

I think as long as people realise that suppliers are giving opinions, they (we) can take those opinions with the knowledge that they might be slightly biased

To be honest we are again having ANOTHER thread which is going nowhere.

BMS choose not to pay to be a supplier and they choose to advertise on facebook. If people would like to see there offers follow them on facebook if not then dont it is quite simple to be honest.

i think that everyone on our fb page are trade customers and we don't sell printed items so there should be no conflict of interest. When we do get enquiries for printing then we tend to either contact certain customers direct to see if they want to quote for the work or sometimes post online and we have a thread online specifically for this purpose.

I don't think friends of us on fb can get access to you unless you allow them, so it keeps you 'private'

I don't really agree that this thread is 'going nowhere' Craig. It hasn't got a destination, it's just a conversation. People exchanging views and seeing other people's points of view. They can take them on board, or not, as they see fit. It's interesting to see how other people view a situation. I realises that sometimes my opinion will be in the majority and sometimes not. I'm happy with that, but it's good to see what others think. A frank and civilised exchange of opinion never hurt anyone.

Hi BMS, I can see your point, what I don't want is my friends seeing you as liked or linked to my facebook page and being curious, going along to have a look. :)

I agree Paul BMS is an example and prob more highlighted due to recent events

what I mean is going on about whether they advertise on facebook instead of on here and so forth I guess the conclusion as I said above is if they pay like everyone else they can advertise if not they cant.

I must say having spent £££ with BMS and the main reason is I found them through this forum I do not disagree that this forum is great for advertising and I have never once said it wasnt hence why when the BMS offer was removed I could not understand why from a business point of view with everyone going to them for the good discounts etc.

Always happy to discuss how the site works with regards to advertising etc. with members, there are no secrets :-) Suppliers are offered extremely favourable rates for what can be reaped in return. You've only got to look at advertising to realise just how expensive it is. I was approached by a magazine and offered advertising for the forum, £400 per issue for a small block ad.

Some very interesting points raised here.
