Re: SX235W cartridge reset with metal object issues...

Post by asub »

Hello,
I just bought a SX235W and a set of resettable cartridges from ebay. The kind of cartridges I bought were the ones you reset by touching a paper clip or metal object to the two metal circles on the chip. When I put them back in the printer the printer doesnt recognise them or thinks they are empty. I have also tried turning the printed off for an hr and trying again but can't get them to work. has anyone ever tried this type of reset chip? Is there a particular type of metal I should use? I have tried jewellery wire and tweezers. I have an image to show the kind of chip...

Any help would be great as I have orders backing up now!

Thanks
A

Surely you need some form of power to reset. Simply touching something with metal isn't going to do anything - all resetting methods I've used require power (e.g. from a battery).

I have a set here that require 'resetting' in the same way (not Epson) but I have a small unit that shorts the pins, there's no power to it though.

Is there residual power stored in the chip then so when you touch these parts it discharges the electricity or does something else? How can touching to metal contacts to make a circuit do anything without some form of power to do whatever it does?

I have no clue! Makes sense that there should be some sort of charge behind it.

How long did you place the metal object on for?

Just a few seconds, I have heard of it being done with a paperclip but surely you can get auto reset carts now?

i needed to find one quick and was the only one I spotted on ebay without having to look through websites. I have never had one like this before.
