Its the one thing I don't do is factor in my labour cost, if I did my mugs would cost a arm and leg, its the art work that can take the time not the making of a mug, on one mug the artwork took me 10 hours to design, partly my fault as I like the client I wanted to do them proud.mel777;56461 wrote:Also don't forget to cost in your labour costs. ie. if you earn £15 per hour (25p per minute) you should add this to your costings (salary for you / profit for the business)

Re: Cost prices to produce covers
10 hours jennywren!!!!!!!!!!!!
Reminds me of some retouching I had to do a couple of weeks ago. I had two images, one was Rod Stewarts new Christmas Album, The other was Cheryl Cole for a promo shot. One took 20 minutes the other took 4 hours.
I am a man so I will let you guess which one took the longer
On a more serious note, artwork charge is always tricky to price. I once did a logo for someone, the job took me 5 minutes as a flash of inspiration came at exactly the right moment. The customer watched me do it and then hit the roof when I said it was £200.00 I tried explaining that it could have taken me a whole day and it would have been the same price but he was having none of it. Ended up with him not paying and going elsewhere for the logo. That suited me as the "new" logo was very similar to mine so I ended up taking him to court for more money!
Customers see our work and then sometimes complain quoting something along the lines of "what, £50.00 for that, my three year old could have done it" When I answer "but your three year old didn't do it and only I thought of it" they still think that the price is too much.
Customers eh!!! who needs em
