Cost prices to produce covers
Re: Cost prices to produce covers
Hi all. I've been asked to make samples of phone covers to sell at a local shop but I'm not sure how to work out the cost price. Any help just rough prices for say 1 iPhone cover- cost of cover, paper I know how do I work out cost of sub ink used heat press cost?
Re: Cost prices to produce covers
For mugs, I averaged out how many mugs I get from one batch of ink and then divide the cost of the inks by that to work out ink cost per mug, electricity for heat press I found really difficult

work it back, how much will they sell them for, how much will you sell them to them for ?? so if they are going to sell them for £8 each, are you happy to sell them for £4 or £5 each to them ? after all you are offering a unique service and turnaround, wiht no minimum order, if they were getting them from a wholesaler they would have this to consider.
dont think too much the other way round, or you will never get your price high to allow yourself some profit.

I always have estimated that a heat press costs £1.00 per hour. I have based this on a standard iron is approximately 22p so figured that a heat press would be quite a bit more than that! Note that this is a very rough estimate and is loosely based on 11p per 1000KW per hour. You would need to check exactly what you are paying with your particular supplier to be more accurate. That said, you probably do not need to go that far in to it and that using a £1.00 per hour will suffice.
With regards to ink, there is a thread on hear regarding the cost of ink. If you are using a Ricoh, then Sawgrass has those details on their website. The DSF search facility is your friend with this particular question

Simon, somewhere your mathematics are flawed. Most flat bed heat presses I have seen have between 1400W and 2200W heating elements. So if the press ran continuously and did not infact turn off when it reached temperature then the maximum cost for running the press would be between 15.4p and 24.2p per hour based on 1400w and 2200w on continuously without cycling at a cost of 11p per kw hour. Mug presses have heating elements sub 1000w so would cost under 11p per hour.socialgiraffe;56441 wrote:I always have estimated that a heat press costs £1.00 per hour. I have just checked the kwH prices that BG charges and it is closer to 23p per kWH so that would make accurate figures now between 32.2p and 50.6p per hour

Hi WDR
I never said I was good at maths LOL!!!
To be honest I can not remember the last time I looked at electricity prices and it is interesting to see that it has more than doubled.
I have only ever used £1.00 per hour as I knew that was well over what the actual cost is and I never really knew what the wattage of a heat press was. I simply looked at the platen and said "well its four times bigger than an iron so best if I quadruple the price at least"
But at £1.00 per hour it works out as pennies per heat press so something I have generally not considered too much in my prices. At 50.6p per hour obviously its even cheaper.

Re: Cost prices to produce covers
Well Simon, I haden't bothered to work it out myself but your posting gave me the incentive to give it a go. Luckily it seems it is not likely to be a major factor in cost terms for long runs of items. I like you used to think electricity was around 10p per unit and was shocked to see it close to 23p and set to rise again this month!

Well it all adds up! What we all need now is either a solar mug press (oven) or a wind powered one!jennywren;56452 wrote:I'm working on 28p as I work my cost for a shop, a home it is cheaper, when my electric goes up again it will go to 30p
