Respect to Andrew if he can sell 500 mugs at £1.99.

ASLCreative, I respectfully disagree, that is the great thing about dyesub. If you want to compete with the big boys you can and I do. You do not need masses of space or big ovens, just 1 (or two) five in one presses and a decent Ricoh printer and you are up and running. If you work out of your home your overheads are minimal whereas the big boys have these massive factories that require staff and huge rents. Your profit margin might be less, but compared to the overheads I think you will find that you can make more money and undercut them.

£1.99 will sit the cost just underneath most promo suppliers who go down the third party supply route. Throw in free set-up and it would be a better deal then most will offer. All plus vat. If you are comfortable with the margin then there will always be a bit of room to discount if needed. Just google promo mug and check the full colour options and you would be hard pushed to find many going below £2.00

er....its roughly costs £2.00-£2.20 to buy and print 1 mug....by the time you add in paper/ink/mug/elec/postage/paypal fee's.

how can you sell em for £1.99 ?..unless you are buying them by the pallet load and getting one hell of a discount for doing so

I don't sell mugs for £1.99+vat..... It goes down far cheaper than that. £1.99 (£2.39 inclusive) should give a decent enough profit on a larger run of the same design.

carton rate mugs are about £1 - bulk is say 85p - plus 15p to print .....
1 clamp can do 100 to 300 mugs a day ......
1000 mugs is a weeks work with time for other things using a single clamp .....

If buying, and therefore selling in bulk quantities, then your cost of mug will be less, maybe about 60p.
Your inks and paper costs are about 10 times what they could be
as you are selling bulk quantities, then your packaging is the packaging the mugs arrive in (the 36 capacity cardboard boxes.)
Again, when supplying bulk, you wouldn't tend to be using PayPal, so their fees aren't to count - you'd be invoicing and getting paid by BACS or cheque, most likely some pro-forma (for new clients at least) If you were using PayPal, then it is common to charge the fees to the client.

So, not taking into account taxes and overheads like electric, your cost per mug can be as low as 65-70p, then if you are selling them at £2, and a client having to get a few 100 a time, you can make a good profit (not per mug, but per order/job)

I thought you wanted pricing on a one off bulk run. Not sure where ebay/paypal come into that or individual boxing unless they want a further quote for that.

Paper 3p + vat, ink 15-20p depending on coverage, mug 70ish + vat. Electricity is minimal so add 3p on covering this and wear and tear. Worst scenario you should be able to get a mug printed for under £1 + vat.

Agree with Andrew here. I print bulk mugs and my costing has said its 99p per mug. No boxes as they are packed back in the boxes they came. Remember that if you print bulk you are probably VAT registered so purchases are plus VAT but then so are your invoices.
