Re: whats the worst that can happen?
Ok before i get into this post i want to make it absouloutely clear i only use sawgrass, artanium call em what you will inks, i dont use rip offs chinese copies or any other sort of ink and if anyone asked my advice i would always suggest using artanium inks, for all the reasons that have been talked about before.
Now thats out the way i just want to ask the question regarding third party inks or rather discussing those inks, bullet proof vest on tin hat ready here goes
What is the worst that can happen to this forum if we openly discussed third party inks and their use?
Ok as i gingerly climb from behind the sofa dodging any bullets men in black (artanium black obviously) etc i'm asking only out of curiosity i dont want to start contraversy , arguments or accusations but i am curious to know the reason why, normally we see a post removed and a polite note saying sorry cant discuss third party inks here but surly its a free country lets face it copyright breach is illegal yet we discuss it freely here 99.999999% of the time its discussing what is and isnt copyright and if you can legally use things etc but i know there have been posts where the poster has freely admited copyright infringement isnt this the same thing?
there are new guys to this trade who dont know better surly its better to advise that its better to use supported inks and why rather than sorry cant discuss third party ink here.I wonder how many newbies have posted their problems on here and us all wasting time trying to advise when all along it might have been the ink they were using.
Im sure theres an obvious answer perhaps it would leave the forum open to legal action i'd just like to know if theres a reason again its out of curiosity and not trying to start a riot.

Re: whats the worst that can happen?
We do discuss 3rd party inks as that is all Sawgrass supply. I do think you are right though Brett as there should be no problem discussing other makes. There are people on here that can legally use non Sawgrass ink but it seems that is not a viable discussion currently. As for the case that anything non Sawgrass is seen as cheap rubbish is an old wives tale. I think it should be all in the open and made clear where the legal complications are. There is very little information on the internet on how to move to the next level.
Personally I don't have an issue with SG as they have largely created the option for many of us to start off in sublimation.

its not illegal to talk about them, to buy them, to use them...
Only illegal is to sell them to SMALL FORMAT printers.
This what people call "cheap chinese crap"is fully valuable and useable inks that are widely used in large format printers. ONly "crime" is that they are sold to people with tiny printers.
but as you said Brett this is free country and you are able to say whatever you like as long this not upset others.
Also as you mentioned:
i think (and this is ONLY my opinion as PAul not a MOD of this forum) quite large percentage of this forum use pirate copys of software to work with.lets face it copyright breach is illegal yet we discuss it freely here 99.999999% of the time its discussing what is and isnt copyright and if you can legally use things etc
and forum still exist

But this is a little misleading isn't it? What you're saying Paul is that it's illegal to sell the inks for use in small format printers, I agree. But what about customers using them in small format printers....are you saying this isn't illegal?Paul;53469 wrote:its not illegal to talk about them, to buy them, to use them...

Is Paul (not the mod) opinion different to Paul (is a mod) then? lol. Bit of a sweeping statement not based on any decent research I think there PaulPaul;53469 wrote: i think (and this is ONLY my opinion as PAul not a MOD of this forum) quite large percentage of this forum use pirate copys of software to work with.

Re: whats the worst that can happen?
yes. it is not illegal. all responsibility is in supplier hands i think. thats why they have to ask about printer serial number.Justin;53472 wrote:But this is a little misleading isn't it? edit: I could do little bit of research but i dont think some people would like it on here

Re: whats the worst that can happen?
I guess Justin is best informed here and there must have been some communication between Sawgrass and the DSF Admin for there to be the cautionary posts circulating. As for the worst that could happen... I think if I were in Sawgrass's shoes and a forum was openly discussing a route to sublimation printing that went against the legal protections that are in force then I could imagine a legal challenge being launched. Given the mismatch in size between Sawgrass and the DSF Forum then the worst could be lights out.purpledragon;53464 wrote:Ok before i get into this post i want to make it absouloutely clear i only use sawgrass, artanium call em what you will inks, i dont use rip offs chinese copies or any other sort of ink and if anyone asked my advice i would always suggest using artanium inks, for all the reasons that have been talked about before.

I don't think that would be in the interests of anyone on here and that's why the DSF Admin and 'the management/ mods' have the policy they have.

Re: whats the worst that can happen?
So you won't be arrested for using drugs? Blimey, Police are pretty laid back around your way! Playing devils advocate here......a member buys non authorised Sawgrass inks for his/her large format machine (legally) and goes on to use them in their small format machines.....they then get rid of their large format machine but contiunue to use the inks in small format....is there an issue?
I guess we could conjure up all scenarios. I'm talking to Sawgrass about this to see where the boundaries are and will post once I hear back from them.

Re: whats the worst that can happen?
Can't say I know this from first hand experience, but from TV programmes I've seen then don't arrests happen if you are a user? I think the law applies to possession and dealing (http://www.homeoffice.gov.uk/drugs/drug-law/).Paul;53474 wrote:you wont be arrested if caught using them.

Re: whats the worst that can happen?
I was caught injecting some cyan I got from a local CMYK dealer, Police told me if I didn't hand it over I'd been arrested for RGB, I called them all the names under the rainbow, it made no difference, now I have a bad profile and I worry future print outs will be shady.
