i think this is more to do with your cartridges then your printer...
it would be helpful to see photo of printed printed mug.

If the cartridges are refillable's, it could be that the chip needs reseting..........

I think what has happened, is that when you first used the printer, not all the inks were flowing fully, but enough for there not be banding, so you compensated for the printer at that point, then the ink flow got worse and you had banding, you then did a head clean, and all the inks were flowing properly for the first time, so the compensating you did previously didn't work anymore.
