Re: Wooden Mug Crate

Post by pisquee »

Has anyone ever seen/heard of a wooden box/crate for storing/transporting mugs. I would love to have a crate which holds 36 mugs - similar dimensions as a standard cardboard box for mugs, but which is more sturdy, and will last (unlike cardboard) Just wondering if anyone's seen this kind of thins available to buy/order before I have to make one! Would need lining with felt or similar fabric on the box insides/trays/dividers.
Also, is this kind of thing be of interest to anyone else - probably more so for market/carboot traders than shop keepers.

I would suggest you contact a flightcase company. I have used www.flightcasewarehouse.co.uk in the past for something different but they are a great bunch of lads etc.

Would be more expensive and all that but the box would be built to last as they make flightcases for music tours etc.

When I order cartons of 36 mugs from my supplier I specify that they must come in a "Mug Protect" box. All it is is another , much stronger and 10cm all round larger cardboard box than the mug box. The mug box is suspended inside this box by polystyrene corners. Hope that makes sense.
This costs me 3€ extra and in the 4 years Ive used them Ive not had a single breakage.
Maybe you should ask your supplier for them....

Well the obvious question is how many mugs did you have broken before? 3 euros is not much but would buy say 2 to 3 mugs anyway. So if a box only had 1 broken everytime it would still be cheaper

One time I had 5 or 6 broken mugs. Now, nothing. I use them only when I order the odd box. I usually order a pallet at a time, no breakages.
