I didn't often have issues with this on my Epson 1400s when I switched from the troublesome CISS but my cheaper B40W suffers from big airlock issues on one colour when I change the cartridges.meldean;52531 wrote:Is it just me or does everybody else have airlock problems.
I use refills with one of my 1400s now, but I don't use it often because the tiny cartridges keep running out and life's too short to keep refilling them - particularly when you have to head clean. The smaller the cartridges are, the more frequently you take them out to refill and the higher the risk of an airlock. Also, the smaller they are, the higher the risk that youll run them dry and the more chance you have of introducing an air bubble. My B40W's been sitting idle for months because the cyan won't come through.
I think the primary issue is that the cartridges effectively sit on top of the print head. There so little space between the reservoir and the print head that it's too easy to introduce an air bubble and that's what causes the airlock. I don't think it's any surprise that printers with remote cartridges (that have lines filled with ink from the cartridge to the print head) don't suffer half as much as the Epsons seem to. That ink line effectively prevents any air bubble from reaching the print head.
This is all just IMHO, of course. If no one else experiences the trouble then clearly I'm just the unlucky one, but I only use my Epsons to print now when I absolutely have to.
