It is weird, a lot of people swear by never turning their epson off (that way it doesnt waste the ink it uses when switched on)

I must admit that mine have never been used with sublimation inks just standrard epson durabrite and oem cheapo ink cartridges.

I've always wondered why people say that. If you don't turn your printer off when you don't intend to use it for a while then you'll use a lot more ink because these printers do a periodic head clean when they're on and not used. At least if you turn them off, they can only do the head clean when you turn them on.

but is it not better losing some ink to keep your heads from getting clogged ?

the brother printers i have are on from 9am - 2am every day.....they self clean every 3 days.... little ink to keep it fresh when i,m not printing much....and thats now....i aint been using them for the last week or so.

It would depend if your printer's heads get clogged when the printer is turned off and how long it'll be until you print again. Epson cartridges have between 5-10ml of ink in them. If you're not intending to use the printer for a few months, you could end up running out of ink - then you're in the same position as you would be if you just turned it off in the first place.

Brother printers are slightly different as most also do faxing and they can't receive faxes if they're turned off.

Well I leave my Epson PX700W on all the time and it has never performed a head clean whilst ive ever been infront of it and thats a lot of hours over a long period.

I suppose there are a lot of factors to take into consideration and if I am honest the least troublesome printers I have had for issue have been the cheap canon ones.

I think it depends how long the printer is left idle. I think the Brother printers are set to do it every three days of idleness, but I've only heard my A3 office printer do it - I've not heard my dye-sub one do it, nor my other A4.
