Epson or Ricoh newbie help :)

Hi all,

I have just started out into this forum and the business as a whole, at the moment i have a Epson SX130 that i use for sublimation to mugs and other things. I have looked on other forums and also this one in regards to the Ricoh printers i have just got Ricoh GX3050N and i want to use this for sublimation.

question how long do the subli j cartridges last in this i know from (jason) that the first set do not last that long because of the lines however how long would you say they last if i was only doing mugs and phone cases etc not T-shirts

which one would you say is better the epson or the ricoh?

Welcome to the forum Lee I don't think you mentioned in your PM that it was the 3050 you were using. Unless I'm mistaken this isn't a supported printer and I don't know if the Subli carts will fit it.

Have you installed the normal inks in this Ricoh?

The 3050 isn't a supported printer so you won't benefit from the PowerDriver software or any assistance from sublimation suppliers or Sawgrass if the printer suffers any problems. Before you go and spend around £180-£200 on a full set of inks (which may not work correctly) consider spending just a little more (around £100) on a supported Ricoh with a full set of inks and Powerdriver that will work fine and backup support.

The number of prints varies dramatically depending on how much ink you use per image. I've know some get 600+ from the first set (even after the initial usage to prime the tubes/lines), others down to 400ish or lower.

i have not installed any inks in the printer its still in its box brand new

Sorry to be a pain what is the difference between a GXE3350 and GX3050N i know you say you cant use mine for sublimation gel ink from sawgrass etc is it a case that sawgrass dont support this kind of printer and that i would not get any help with the icc profile and power driver etc. Could i not just get a ICC profile for this after buying the sawgrass inks . i have looked around and it seems that the carts are the same size ???

What Martin meant was that the cost of sublimation ink for the ricoh os abut £50 per cart and obviously there are 4 of them but for around £100 more so £300 in total you can have a brand new ricoh that is supported by sawgrass and you will get the powerdriver aswell as support and warranty from sawgrass etc.

Neither the 3350 nor the 3050 are supported. The only Ricoh A4 printers that are supported are the GXe3300 or the SG3110. Both these printers have been tested and as a result are not supported. The 3350 is particularly problematic so steer well away from that printer.

Sublimation suppliers often bundle the printer and a full set of cartridges in such a way that buying the printer adds just over £100 on buying the cartridges alone. There are deals around, but I doubt you'll buy just the printer alone for £100. It's the cartridges that are going to cost the most - a full set for the GXe3300 is around £190, a full set for the SG3110 is around £210. We have both printers available from stock which are supplied with the SubliJetR cartridges as standard and full back up is provided including a warranty back up from Sawgrass for using the supported printers.

Many thanks for your information, so i have just spent money on a printer that i did not need lol, is there any other printers that can be used for sublimation which dont cost as much? i have been looking on the net and i have seen some epson s22 any ideas ?

Lee, it isn't the printers that are expensive it's the sublimation ink. If you look on one of the suppliers pages you'll see the options for both Ricoh and Epson supported printers.
